I have no motivation

Does anyone else post op feel like this? I'm on stage 4, the pureed foods and doing ok so far. I saw Dr. Aranow on the 5th and I lost 30 lbs in two weeks. Before I had the surgery I used to exercise everyday, 7 days a week. I used to do a mile to two on the treadmill, exercise bike and stair stepper. Now I find it hard to motivate myself to do anything. Anyone know why? I am very active in everything else. I have 5 kids and they keep me going constantly. Maybe I just need to fit in some time for myself? I dont know what to do...

Chrisanne, Sometimes right after surgery there can be a kind of depression or sadness that can drift in. It's kind of like the day after Christmas. You prepare so long for it and anticipate it so much and then it's all over. Here is where the hard work begins and that can be daunting as well. This is a great place to come for support though! Hope it all works out for you! Eileen

Hi Chrisanne: Keep in mind that this surgery is MAJOR surgery. Expecting your body to BOUNCE BACK so soon can be hard. Think of your body as a new baby and learning all new ways to live and eat. As well, some say that it takes a very long time for the anethesia to not have it's effects on the body, even on a cellular level. Be kind to yourself, give your body the time it needs to get back to what you are expecting of yourself. I do agree with the comment about depression. Some (I did and still do at times) mourned the loss of food as a source of comfort. And, my God woman! You have 5 kids and say you are not motivated? You will gain the strength once again...maybe just not in your time. One note...are you taking all your supplements? Multi? Calcium Citrate? B12? This right here could be the culprit. I got a script for injectable B12 from my surgeon and get a shot once a month. It does make a difference in my energy level. Be well...and patient. Towanda

Chrisanne, Please - Go easy on yourself, it's not even a month yet. I felt exhausted for about 6-7 weeks! You'll start getting your energy back and feel much better soon. Hang in there! Anne

Hi Chrisanne, What you are feeling is completely normal, felt by most people after surgery. Remember, your body is still recovering, trying to figure out what the heck happened to it! Major changes on the inside means major changes on the outside. Make sure you get all your protein in, your vits, liquids (that wa smy challenge, and still is today) and you'll be fine, I promise. Until then be good to yourself. Walk. Breathe. And hug those kiddos, I bet they're very proud of you!! I know I am! Hang in there, it will get better. -Deb

Ditto what everyone else has said. I had to have someone reminding me that I had MAJOR SURGERY....I felt tired, draggy and slightly "icky" for a good eight weeks. Now I can barely remember what that felt like. Get your protein in, drink, drink, drink, sleep, sleep, sleep....take those Vitamins and walk a bit every once in awhile. You'll be fine.
