Hi guys, These protein shakes are killing me! I usually have carnation instant breakfast with a scoop of the protein powder (whey protein from gnc) in it which gives me like 33 grams of protein, I was having 2 a day. I cant even stomach one now, it makes me gag, I have to force it and hold my breath...lol.... I was also adding the protein powder to the carb countdown smoothies and the carb countdown chocolate milk. I cant have any of these anymore, the taste is killing me. I'm two weeks post op, I have an appointment with Dr. Aranow this Tuesday. I cant wait to chew on something, but maybe then I can get protein in other ways? I notice on Joanies food logs alot of you guys are still drinking protein shakes...How do you do it??? ps)I've tried the Isopure and that was nasty too

Chrisanne, I just had my 2 week visit at Dr Aranow's and purchased some "Nectar" (strawberry kiwi flavor). It mixes with water and is a clear liquid with 23 g protein in a scoop. It tastes pretty good. They have several different flavors to choose from at Dr A's office. It helped me a great deal, because I am with you, the milky drinks were getting to me also. You are so close to moving on to stage 4 --- hang in there! terri

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I thought it was just me (I had tried mixing pills in a couple of yimes, and thought I just formed a mental dislike!). You are getting in way more than me! I am licky to get half a shake a day!! I go in Wednesday and can't wait for texture. I know I will get more protein in that way! At GNC I also some clear fruit flavored protein drinks. I think I am going to take my isopure powder cak and try some of the clear stuff! Isopure is too nasty for me to get down at all! By the way, how is the protein powder? I might try some of that if I can get a little more protein in! Carmen

The only protein shakes I can tollerate post op are the Atkins ones. I got some of the SF syrups from vitalady.com for flavor variety. I have no problems with these. It is odd how your taste buds change. Egg beaters is another good source of protein if you can handle that. Maggie

I totally agree with you. I couldn't wait for my two weeks to be up, so I could ditch those disguisting things. I have tried powders, shakes, carb countdowns, etc. YAK! Not interested. I try to do my protein the natural way. This way I get used to eating again, and am learning portion control as well. Hope Tues. gets here really really fast for you! JA

You only have another day left for the shakes, so really........... just do it. Think of it coming to the end and being able to move on. BTW, how long are you taking to drink the shakes? Anything with predigested protein should be consumed within 30 minutes, one hour max. Whey protein is considered pre-digested. Also............. your body cannot absorb more than 30 grams of protein at one time. So, if you are thinking that you are getting 656 grams per shake, you need to re-evaluate. Peter
