Having a Bad Weekend

Well, my knee has been a little sore over the past few days , but since yesterday afternoon, it has become extremely swollen and it is too painful to stand. My husband even went up in the attic to get me crutches, just so I could get around a little. In the past prednisone has been the ony thing to help when it got this bad, but I know I can't take it anymore. Dr V said I could take Naprosyn for 2 days, but it did not go down well , so I am not taking another dose! I hope I can get through the weekend, so I can see my PCP Monday and have him remove some fluid. If not I will have to go to the ER and hope they don't hurt me . Thanks for letting me vent, Carmen

Carmen, Please don't try to be a hero and wait through the weekend, if the pain is so bad, please go to the ER make sure you say plenty of times that you've had WLS and cannot take anti inflammatories. There is no reason for you to suffer this way. I am worried for you, please take good care. Cheryl

Hi Carmen, I would recommend that you go to the ER. You don't want to take any chances that it could be a blood clot. I know you are saying that you that you have had problems with your knees before but you also want to make sure it isn't something more serious. Good luck and hope you are better soon. Heidi

Ditto what they said Carmen! Don't suffer! I know that in the past I would suffer with pain because I felt I somehow "deserved" the pain because I was so heavy! I'm smartening up about that stuff now and am taking better care of myself. Please take good care of yourself! Don't suffer needlessly! Ann

I know it is not a blood clot, I also have Baker's Cysts in the same leg, when they rupture, it mimicks the pain of a blood clot and I do go to the ER right away in that case, just to make sure. This is my knee, the swelling is right above the joint where it always is! I do not think I can wait, so I will probably go to the ER in a little while! Thanks, Carmen

Ditto to all of the above. I would go to the ER now and not wait. Please let us know how you make out. Maggie

Thanks everyone for your responses and concern. I just am so used to my knees doing this, and I have only gone to the ER once before, so I do try to tough it out! I will take your advice and go. We are supposed to be having a b-day party for my husband at noon, so I will call and change it (just a few of his family members) so I can go to the ER first. Or I can have him drop me off, and they can have pizza and cake while I am there, then I don't have to drool while I eat Jello.... Carmen

Carmen, I am sure that the people Er will do whatever they can to relieve the swelling and they will not hurt you. Don't be araid to seek help if the pain and swelling is bad. I am praying that you feel better and are able to move around without discomfort soon. Hugs Pattie D

Actually...................... NSAIDS are a no-no, but prednisone is not, unless you are a recient post-op. Peter

I am a recent post-op, just 10 days out. I let the Dr know the situation and he said the prednisone could cause ulcers. Carmen
