Sense of smell change post op
I have noticed that I am super sensitive to smells since surgery. Especially Garlic. My husband ate a garlic bagel one morning and I smelled it for 2 days! It was like oozing out of him or something, I felt really bad, because I had to kick him out of bed the other night it was so repulsive to me. He was pretty ticked off, poor guy, but I thought I was going to throw up if he didn't leave the room!
Is this a typical thing after surgery? I have heard about tastes changing post op but not smells.
Just a little weird think I noticed..

I am just a little more than a week post op and I, too, have noticed a major change in smells. It's not just food aromas...perfume/cologne that I found wonderful prior to surgery start my stomach spinning. Lilies make me nauseous. Glad to hear that this is not going to last forever.
Have a great day,
Pat
Hello ladies,
Just wanted to add in here.. I had the same problem post op. A lot of things made me very nauseas. Even the mere THOUGHT of some things made me gag. Everyone kept saying "Are you pregnant?" (Heck no, like I just had major surgery to get rid of fat and can barely feed myself now)
Anyhow, I found that I was very sensitive to a lot of foods and smells. One of the worst was right after surgery in the hospital.. the nurses/aides were lovely, but it seemed they bathed in what I thought was horrendous perfume (probably just my sensitive state).
Good news is, after months of this it settled down. I don't feel that way any more. There are a few meals that I've eaten that I won't touch again, just b/c the though turned me off of them.
Good luck.
Michelle
