Sleep Study at Johnson Memorial
Hi Christine
I had sleep studies done at gaylord hospital and while the surroundings
may be different the procedures are usually the same,
You arrive at nite 8to 9 pm...bring your jammies; if you like a favorite
pillow. A technician will meet with you and explain the procedure.
The procedure consists of attaching wires to your face, neck, head, chest, legs. they use some adhisive to do this. there is no pain involved.
they may or may not hook you up to oxygen.
be sure you bring any nitetime meds. By this time you feel like something out of a science fiction movie but again there is no pain involved.
you can watch tv or read until you are sleepy. once you go to sleep
you will be monitored so they can determine if you have any sleep
problems ex sleep apnea.
the worst part is washing the gunk out of your hair that they use to
attach the wires, Hope this helped if you have any questions feel free to
contact me
good luck

Hi Christine,
I haven't been to Johnson Memorial, but I know several doctors and nurses from there - and they are really a very nice little hospital.
The sleep study is nothing to be nervous about - they hook you up to some wires (doesn't hurt, but is a little difficult to roll over, etc) and they watch you with a video camera through the night. Just plan on having a nap at home later, you won't feel like you slept much
You'll do fine.
God Bless,

Thanks for the re-assurance, both of you! I spent a lot of time in hospitals when I was younger, and don't like it much. I guess I'll be fine, as long as there are no needles involved!
I actually have to work the day after, so that should be interesting!
Kathy, we should get together......I would love to meet you! I have tons of questions I'm too embarassed to ask on here.
Hey Christine,
The sleep study is nothing to get nervous about. I did it with my eyes closed. (ha ha really bad joke I know, but couldn't resist) I agree that the worst part is wahing the adheasive out of your hair the next day. I had my done about 5 yrs ago at St Mary's and it was actually a 2 night process. 1 to do the study, and the other to get the pressure adjusted on my c-pap. I think most of them are all just 1 night now. I only wish I had done mine sooner. The c-pap has made a huge difference in my life.
