Advise on Crushing Pills

There are 2 pills that I have to crush to take, but they are so gross, I can barely get them down. I have tried mixing w/ tiny bit of water...nasty! Then diluting into some of my portein shake, seems like it is just more to gag down, unless I really dilute it (2 oz) then it just leaves a bitter taste. Tried Mary Poppins trick... just a spoonful of "splenda", but nothing works. It takes 30-45 mins to gag them down. I even tried rinsing with Listerine, thinking that nothing would really taste bad after that... made it worse!!! If anyone has any advise on making this a little easier I would be so grateful! Carmen

Take them in some applesauce. There are flavored varities out there and you might find one you like better than another. Check with your pharmicist to see if they are available in liquid. If so, call you MD and have it prescribed int hat form while you are still recovering. If you use regular apple sauce, you might still find it bitter. Add splenda if you need.

Thank Peter, I am not sure if I can have applesauce yet, but I will check with the Dr office. Even if it is just a couple of bites! Carmen

Hey Carmen!! I would put my pills in sugar-free jello pudding (the kind that you make) and that covered up the taste. Boy I don't miss those days of crushing the pills, they were gross . Just think acouple of weeks and you'll be over crushing them and then you won't taste them so much! Carmen

Good idea Carmen! I can't wait for the day to come when I taste them less, because it is the worst part of my day..... I know one pill is available in liquid, but they wanted me to keep in in pill form and crush. I don't know why, and that one tastes the worst!! Thanks, Carmen

Just reiterating ideas -- see if they can be gotten in liquid form. When I was in Bridgeport Hospital -- about 2 wks. post wls surgery, one of the nurses gave me the gift of applesauce. It was the only way I could get them down for a couple of weeks. Check with your doctor on his opinion, but that worked like a charm for me! Good luck! Kathy F.
