Red Letter Day

Hi Everyone, Well I have to tell my good news I actually went to the gym today for the first time in my life and believe me that's a long time and I am living to tell the story. This may not seem like a big deal but to me it was a major accomplishment. You see the only time I was ever on a treadmill was when I went for my stress test and I really thought I was going to die and I made them stop. So I have been petrified to try one again. So this was a great day for me and if I could I would reach around and give myself a huge pat on the back, but I'm too sore I actually did 35 min on the treadmill and 25 min on the bike. Not bad for my first try. So I think I may even go back tomorrow, who would have ever thought. I really think this may also help my issues with self-consciousness too!!! Well I hope you all have a wonderful week, Mary Lou P. S. Thanks for letting me share my excitement

Mary Lou, That is wonderful!!!!! The hardest part is getting there in the first place. I found I felt a little awkward there for the first two weeks or so and then it just became a very comfortable place for me to be. You have come such a long way from that first day you took a short walk in the park after surgery and you look great too! Keep up the good work Heather

Hi, Mary Lou! I too have never been to a gym, but I'm planning to start after I have surgery. Reading your post reminded me of when I attended Dr. Aranow's informational seminar in August. One of the things he said was that at about two weeks after surgery, "you'll be able to go back to the gym." What I thought (but didn't say) was, "What do you mean -- go back?" If we were all regular gym attendees, how many of us would have been at that meeting contemplating having surgery? Debby

Great job Mary Lou, The best thing you can do is to establish a good routine and stick with it. Don't over do it at the beginning, but make sure you keep going! Best of Luck, Carmen
