SUPPORTED!
I decided that I needed to go to a support group..and let me tell you, it did more for me than I thought it would! I had not been since the begining..I forgot how powerful a conversation with someone who has been here....or a conversation with someone looking for encouragement who is where I was. I really think it can be so very rewarding and you all should try it!
Kathy,
I think they have groups at all different times...I know the group that I go to is Dr. Bell's and only meets once a month in New Haven. I really wish I could find a group that meets outside of New Haven...I hate the highway...but I will continue to drive in to get the lift I need to keep me going!
In addition to lots of groups which are run by therapists or surgeons, at Norwalk Hospital we also have a peer-to-peer support group that meets twice every month. On the FIRST WEDNESDAY we try to have a discussion meeting and on the THIRD MONDAY of every month we have more of a round-table discussion. We are not affiliated with any particular surgical group and include RNY and Banded patients. The goal of our meetings is simple-- be a place where you can learn from the experience of others, share your struggles, offer encouragement and gain some perspective for the lifelong journey we are all on. And, perhaps best of all, we are free and offer free validated parking.
Meetings start at 6 p.m in the first floor volunteer conference room and no pre-registration is required.
Steve, that is what I am looking for, except closer to home...Branford Shoreline--my surgeon offers a monthly meeting at 6pm in New Haven--with no parking validation...I don't mind paying for parking it is driving into New Haven that I hate...but as time passes, I realize I NEED the support...that is why this site is so important to me...and I am glad my surgeon signed on!
Thanks for you information...wish you were closer!
I just wish someone had them during the day and closer to Enfield. It's a 45 minute drive to Middlesex and I can't get the time from work. That's why I am here most of the time. I get support and give it here.
I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.
