Hi Melissa, Remember, you just had major surgery honey! Keep yourself hydrated and make sure you do your protein, even though it taste like YUK! I remember taking lots of naps, and it would hit me all at once. I'd be up and around and suddenly I would just "have" to sleep. You can always call the doc after the weekend if you don't feel any better. It does take time to get your strength back. Good luck. JA

Melissa: You are totally normal!!! I am STILL tired. Your body needs to nap to rebuild itself. You just had major surgery so cut yourself some slack and rest. I actually like the Ensure. Try to drink as much fluid as possible as this is supposed to help get rid of the tired feeling. If you still feel shakey call Dr.Bell's office and see what they say. Are you taking and meds that could be making you feel this way? Take care, Chryssie

Melissa,I'm almost 2 weeks post-op now,and let me tell ya,it was really hard those first days home. The pain meds will make you feel this way,I remember basically being in and out of conciousness alot the first few days after surgery. I would be trying to get my liquids in with my little 1oz medicine cup sitting on the couch and suddenly start drifting off and the next thing I know I have water pouring onto my lap-THAT woke me up quickly,LOL! Once you start decreasing the amount of med that you need, you'll be much more alert(but don't try to get off the pain meds too quickly,if you need it,you need it). Also, you just had major surgery! You are gonna be very tired, and you're only 4 days out! I'm a hypocrit though,I'm very impatient and want to be feeling 100% right away, but that's not reasonable. Just hang in there,I promise it gets better, everyday the pain gets better! ~Katie

Melissa, I think it is totally normal to be tired and weak after surgery. Listen to your body and give it rest when it needs it and pain relief when it needs it and if anything feels too unusual call your Dr. Your body has just been through a pretty rough time, it will take time to regenerate and get your energy back. Take it easy, it will get better. Terri

Melissa, Hang in there..this IS normal. You will feel better each day. Sometimes it takes a while for you to get all those drugs out of your system. You had major surgery..give yourself time. When you feel up to it..take a small walk...and increase it each day..you may need to push yourself...but you will feel more energetic in the long run. Joanie

Melissa, Your post sounds JUST LIKE a post I made when I was about a month out from surgery! It's all normal....you had MAJOR surgery! I've been told that it takes about 8 months to fully recuperate from major surgery. I had my surgery on July 6th. I can walk an hour without a problem...but I still take a little nap during the day to "catch up." Thank GOD I'm retired and have the time and opportunity to do this. You seem to be right on target with everything.....Best wishes the rest of the way through your recovery...and your NEW LIFE! Ann 314/257/150

Is this normal?? In a single word, yes. You are experiencing the effects of the anesthesia. This will last up to one month. ERvery day will get better. Just give it time, and enjoy the naps while you can. Sure wish I could get one every once in a while. Peter

Hi Melissa, Yes it is normal to feel strange in the beginning. As everyone has said you just had major surgery and your body is recovering. You might try changing the times that you drink your ensure (or boost). I found that I was getting terrible headaches during the night and that wiped me out for the day. When I started drinking my last 2 oz of boost at around 9pm that stopped the headaches and I felt much much better. That was suggested by Dr. Bell so you might just give it a try. Don't be afraid to call his office though and talk to Lynda or Dr. Bell. They are great and will help you. Linda

Hi Melissa, just another post letting you know you are very normal. I felt like heck right after my surgery but every day got just a bit better. Now I feel like I can conquer the world, lol. Hang in there. It can be a tough couple of weeks but it's like childbirth, you will forget some of the pain once you start seeing the results. Eileen
