Hey everyone, I just wanted to get input from you all, since you're the all-wise-ones. (I do think so) I am running out of ideas.. I know there are so many things out there, but really I want something suited for me, that's in balance. Any menu ideas, sans the high protein products (artificial stuff, protein drinks, etc.) would be great. I'm not sure why, but I'm lost these days when it comes to shopping.. so maybe a little nudge from y'all will help me out. It would be much appreciated. I like just about anything as far as food goes. Thanks ahead of time. Michelle

I'm with you no chicken for me either Don't know why, but it doesn't like me. And the filet mignon I had tonight didn't like me either! So, I need some ideas as well. I have a hard time with breakfast cuz I'm sick of eggs; don't eat cottage cheese, and cereal is not that great going down. So I have been having yogurt, but now that it's cold out, I want something else. I don't like oatmeal....I'm missing my carbs big time! Lunch is easy, but it's breakfast and dinner that I have a problem with. JA

Hi Michelle, Well lets see....hmmm......menu ideas. I really use very little protein supplements and I get in a huge amount of protein every day, so here are some suggestions: Breakfast.......my usual breakfast is 1/2 cup of 1% (might be 2%, I foget.....)cottage cheese with a spoonful of regular sour cream, lots of garlic salt and 3 small pieces of pre- cooked bacon. That is 20 grams of protein right there. Sometimes I will have 3/4 cup of Special K Low Carb Cereal with 1/2 cup of 1%milk with the bacon. Lunch- I go in spurts. Did alot of home made turkey chili (with beans) or deli select ham or turkey, some low fat cracker barrel cheddar cheese, maybe a couple of dill pickle spears. Tuna made with Helman's Just 2 Good, chopped onions and garlic salt, a bag of Atkin's Crunchers, Mussleman's Light fruit sauce. Often I will make a salad with the sliced ham or imitation crab meat or salad shrimp, add fat free cheese, shell-less pumpkin seeds and bacon bits. I do use regular dressing on my salad. . Then there are always left overs from the night before. Dinners.....well to tell you the truth I have no problems at all with this meal. I have some kind of protein and a veggie. I have made the choice to not eat potatoes, rice, pasta or bread at all. That is not to say I haven't eaten something that is lightly breaded etc. but it is really limited. I make alot of fish (never would eat it pre-op), and have been able to find it stuffed with non-bread stuffing. Some with crab meat and cheese.....yummy. I make pasta-less lasagna usually with ground turkey, sauce, ricotta, mozeralla and bake. Turkey has lots of protein and may sit better with you than chicken if you cook it right. I often cook chicken or turkey cutlets in salsa...real moist. Shrimp with garlic and tomatos is a great recipe I came across. I do eat alot of shrimp, crab meat and some lobster meat I have made spaghetti squash with sauce, zuchinni, green beans, stewed tomatos etc. etc. Now that I think about it I don't really cook all that much differently than I used to but I leave out all the starches. Snack-----my biggie is mixed nuts, then beef jerky, popcorn (addiction), no sugar added, fat free ice cream (blue bunny, dairy queen or atkins), I use the atkin's crunchers instead of chips because I like the salt. I use them if I feel the need to dip.....lol. 13 grams of protein per bag. I hope some of this rambling helps. If you need specific recipes just let me know. I have tons. Linda

Hi Michelle, I keep a bag of large frozen cooked shrimp on hand at all times. 5 minutes and they're thawed out ready to be eated, grilled, sauteed, anything. They're high in protein, low fat,low carbs, and delish! If you like shrimp that is... I also tend to buy the best cuts I can, especially when it comes to steak. I eat so little compared to the old days that I make sure what I eat I'll enjoy. Fish - easy to bake or grill. I like grilled fish more than baked, but I'm afraid of our grill...so if Gary's not around I'm SOL. Hope that helps!

Hi everyone I'm here to give you some ideas on what to eat, since I do that alot lately. I take boneless chicken and put it in the crock pot with salsa and cook all day on low. It is very moist and tasty. Others have put melted cheese on top after (sounds yummy). You could also do the salsa on white fish and bake, I bet that would taste good. I also take boneless chicken and either bake it or put it in the crock pot with a can of low-fat cream of mushroom soup, and a cup of red cooking wine, and a can of sliced mushrooms. Cook all day in the crock pot on low - or for about 40 minutes on 350 in the oven. Take chicken out of sauce and put on platter, mix one container of fat-free sour cream into the sauce and pour over chicken - very, very yummy. Serve with broccoli (tastes good with sauce over it) and brown rice if you can tolerate rice. I use salsa alot -- here's another one I use that the whole family likes - tuna tacos! I know, it sounds gross, but they are good. You take 4 cups of bagged coleslaw, 1/3 cup salsa and 1/3 cup fat-free sour cream, 2 cans tuna - mix together. Serve on whole wheat, low carb tortillas. I like grits with a poached egg on them sometimes for breakfast, I also eat cottage cheese, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, and cinnamon toast (made with low-carb bread, butter, and splenda mixed with cinnamon) no protein, but yummy, and goes down nicely toasted. Homemade turkey chili is a good one I used alot at the beginning as well - I also go to Wendy's for chili sometimes (can't beat a 99 cent lunch). Tunafish mixed with low-fat mayo and pickle relish is good - tastes like fish with tarter sauce. Devilled eggs or egg salad is another one that I like. Otherwise, I just eat whatever I would normally fix for dinner for the family - I don't have much problem with keeping food down/in. Hope this helps some.
