Scared of Endoscopy.....

Hi all, I am going in on Monday for my endoscopy and am scared to death. It was not supposed to be until 9/30, a week after I meet with Dr Valin, but since they moved my surgery date up to 9/28, they had to move the endoscopy too! I have not even met Dr Valin yet and am very nervous, I have no idea what to expect, and have only read the handout I was given. Can anyone tell me what I should expect? I know I will be sedated, but will I be completely out, or semi-consious? Any information or experiences you can share would be wonderful. Like I said I have no idea what to expect...... Thanks, Carmen

Carmen, I had an endoscopy and COLONoscopy done pre-op...together on the same day. The wose part was the clean out the day before and I doubt you need to do tht for the endoscopy..so you are home free. You are sedated..you can hear people at times...kind of going in and out. At one point I felt discomfort for a second..must have moaned..the I felt someone pushing something into my IV...I was out. They really do keep you comfotable. Its really not bad at all...Good luck Joanie

No clean out required for me (YEAH). I know I have woke up both times I have been put out before (wisdom teeth and knee surgery). I hope I don't wake up again, but if I do, I'm sure they'll do the same and put me back out! Thanks, Carmen

HI Carmen! I have to have my endoscopy next week. I had one 8 years ago, and I hear they've gotten a lot better. I"d be glad to be knocked out cold for that one!!!!

As long as I'm out I'll be fine. If I was awake to any extent I would freak out. I am such a wuss..... Just knock me out and do what you need to, lol. Carmen

Have no worries Carmen. The worst part is the IV. After that, you feel no pain. Most people go all the way out. I have for both of mine that I have had done. Then you wake up and it is all over. You might feel a bit groggy for a bit, but that is all. Good luck, let us know how it goes. Maggie

Thanks Maggie, Although I am scared to death of needles, I have no problem with the IV as long as I don't look. I feel much better knowing I will be out! Thanks, Carmen PS: Your new pic looks awesome, you look so much happier and younger!!
