you know..... the farther I get on the 'journey' the more I realize how much people I thought supported me, are second guessing me. They were all for it in the beginning and now all I hear is "So! You are really doing this??? Why, I like you the way you are." Almost like I decided on a whim and I would forget about it in time. Maybe I shouldn't have told them... but they are close to me and I feel that I could. My mom and Dad were the ones I thought would look at me like I had 3 heads... but to my surprise, they back me 100% and mom goes with me (when she can) to support groups. So.. to the people I have chatted with on this site. (there are only a few because I am new but I am sure there will be more...) THANKS!!!!! HAve a great weekend everyone!!!!! And thanks for letting me vent!! Beckie =0)

Hi Rebecca, I know how you feel. I didn't tell anyone in my family ( they all live out of state****il I was home and able to talk on the phone. The only people who knew were my co-workers and friends that I scrapbook with. They were all very supportive to my face, but I think they did have some reservations which I'm very glad they kept to themselves. I think once you have made the decision to have the surgery it would be very hard to have to explain to people why you are doing it. This was the reason I didn't call my family ahead of time. I know they love me and would be worried and I just wasn't able to cope with it. It was enough to deal with the fears of my husband, son and daughter. I think most people express concern and what we perceive to be lack of support because they love us. I'm sure your family will rally around you when everyting is all said and done. Best of luck to you and please feel free to vent anytime you need. Sandy

Beckie, I think people are uninformed and base their opinions on false information. They are probably just concerned. My answer to people like that was..."Trust that I have done my researach and I am secure with what I am doing" It usually shuts them up. Go with your gut..and stay on the boards...we ARE a great support! Joanie

Hi Beckie This is a great site. You will always find support for whatever you need here. I love this group and don't know what I would do without them. Some people will always second guess you. It's just their nature. You'll find that in a lot of cases unless someone really understands the procedure and can understand what you life is like being obese. As long as you feel you are making the right decission in your heart, then go for it. Hope you have a great weekend to. Hope to see you posting more often. Maggie

Hi Becky! I know what you mean. My family is supporting me now that they know I've done my research. But, I went to a birthday party last night and some woman I barely know said she heard I was going in for "the" surgery and wanted to know if I was still doing it. When I said yes, she said as she was rolling her eyes ...."well, you'll be in my prayers, then." Talk like that doesn't even bother me anymore. She's misinformed. I've done my research. Let it roll off! Love, Tammy
