To finish off last night..I ended up with two hard boiled eggs for dinner and carbsmart ice cream for snack...No kids activities today...thank God...so maybe we can sit down to dinner together. Ooops..my son has driving school, but we can fit dinner in before he goes...if my husband cooks! B-protein shake S-1/2 momentum bar--I decided to eat half at a time..it was adding too many calories L-Chili--found an extra container I froze the last time I made it-going to add a bit of low fat cheese and low fat sour cream too S-the other half of the Momentum Bar D-Ravioli--my first try at this..wish me luck S-cs ice cream 1/2 cup...I am going to limit this to 2-3 times a week..this could get to be a habit...even with low carbs..its got 10g of fat in it and 130 calories...but a nice treat nonetheless. Have a sparkling day CT! Joanie

G'Morning one and all! In response to how much spinach I was able to eat after my dinner last night - I was WAY off target, I ate 3/4 cup, not the 1/4 cup I assumed. I was like an eating machine yesterday...just couldn't fill up. Keep your fingers crossed that today isn't a repeat of that...UGH! B - Honey wheat english muffin, coffee L - Treat day at Panera so I'll have 1/2 of my roast beef sandwich and a coffee to go. S - The rest of my sandwich if I'm hungry D - This will be a challenge. I have therapy until 7:15 so dinner wont be until 7:30 or later. I might pick up something at Boston Market. S - There will be a midnight snack in the freakin' Red Sox lose again!!!!! Have a great day everyone!!

Deb, thanks for writing in about the amount of spinach you ate last night. I wondered about that today. Your tasty menu from yesterday inspired me today to be a little creative with lunch. I had a pita bread with lemon hummous, lettuce and smoked salmon, 10 grapes and a granola bar. I am trying to be as best as I can with my diet this week until the big "S" day, but I am also having my 2 last hoorrahs, within reason of course. Went to dinner at the Saybrook Inn last night. I was really conservative and had my steak, but ordered it off the spa menu(a fancy way of saying "no carb") and tomorrow night it's a hot fudge sundae. But I will save my calories for that during the day so I don't go over the top. Thanks to you and everyone for the great meal ideas! Terri

Good morning everyone! Here is what's on the menu today: B- Carb Countdown yogurt, 6 oz. cup S- Protein shake, 11 oz. L- leftover ravioli from last night S- protein bar D- chinese food, chicken and maybe two tbsp rice Joanie, I had ravioli last night for the first time. It was good but very filling. I only had 5, they were about 2" triangles. I probably could have been satisfied with four pieces. Have to eat take out tonight, because I get home at 5:15 and have my surgeon's support group meeting from 6-8 - no time to cook tonight... Have a great day everyone! Anne

Maggie, Is the carb countdown smoothie, like a yogurt. I have not been able to fine it in Big Y...I know someone said Stop and Shop, I have not tried there yet. I am not a yogurt person...wondering if I will like this. Joanie

Hi, Joanie! Hood's come out with all sorts of products in their Carb Countdown line. I've read how much you like their chocolate dairy beverage (God forbid we call it milk or the FDA or some other agency will come after us -- as a diabetic I've been drinking it for a while now -- I really missed chocolate milk before I found it). By the way, why is it that you mix the chocolate and white milks? Is the chocolate too chocolatey for you? Or are you trying to cut the total fat and calories in what you're drinking? It can't be to get more protein, since both types have the same amount of protein. I recently bought the Carb Countdown orange pineapple juice drink at Stop & Shop. It doesn't have any protein, and since it's only 10% juice it has almost no vitamins, but it is fortified with vitamin C, so in 8 oz. it provides 100% of the RDA for vitamin C and has only 25 calories and 5 grams of carbs (unlike regular OJ that has 26 grams of carbs in 8 oz.). Now, to finally answer your question about the smoothies... Carb Countdown has both yogurt in cups and bottles of yogurt smoothies. They don't taste the same. I don't like the yogurt very much; I think the smoothies taste better. I'm not a big yogurt person either; most brands taste too sour to me. If you try the smoothie, try all the flavors though -- some are better than others. I found that I like the peach best. Also, I've found that if it's close to the sell-by date, it doesn't taste as good. (Same for the chocolate milk.) I've bought it at both Stop & Shop and Shaw's. I don't have one at home now, but I think it has 13 grams of protein in one small bottle. It's quick and easy to grab and requires no preparation at all. Debby

Thanks for the information Debby. I am going to try it. Oh..the reason I use the cc skimmed milk with the chocolate is to cut down on that chalky taste it seems to have for me AND to save on calories. I am really hooked on it. Haven't used instant breakfast in weeks! Joanie
