Tom, There is so much info out there. You will get many opinions. I am still researching vitamins, hoping to find some good isotonic vitamins (not easy to find). They say take calcium citrate not carbonate because after surgery the citrate absorbs better. Citrical is one of the few I found that has citrate. As for protein powders, everyone says to try samples from places like unjury and vitalady, both found on the internet. And some people say to be careful if you stock up because your tastes sometimes change after surgery. I have tried a few protein powders, have not found one I really liked a lot, but have stocked up a bit on Atkins powders because they were cheap at Ocean State Job Lot. Cheap enough that if I don't like them afterwards, I can pass them on without losing any real investment. Good luck!

Hi Tom, My Nutritionist recommended Optisource chewable vitamins. She felt they were the most complete ones available. I find them to taste quite good. You need to take 4 a day. You can find them at Walgreens.com. As far as the protein powders go I stocked up also and tasted them prior to surgery. After surgery I couldn't stand either the taste or the consistency of any of them. The only one I use now is Atkins pre-mixed Chocolate Royale. You can buy those at Walmart for $6.33 a four pack. hope this helps. Sandy

Hi Tom, Well its pretty much as everyone said......DONT stock up because your taste buds and what you can tolerate are going to change. The best idea is to get some samples of different kinds of protein powders and drinks so you can decide later on what you want to invest money in. Bariatriceating.com, vitalady.com, inury.com are just a few of the good sites that have samples. GNC does allow you to return and you can buy single bottles of the Isopure Bottles to try. Basically there are ones that you mix with milk and others that you mix with water and those that come pre-mixed. Get a variety of samples as you don't know what will work later on. No Sugar Added Carnation instant breakfast is good but not as much protein as alot of the other mixes but it still works well. As far as vitamin's go there are lots of them out there. Some of the web sites I mentioned earlier stock special vitamins for bariatric patients. Some doctors have specific ones they want you to use. What ever ones you take just make sure you do take them every single day!!!! I was taking the Flinstones Complete (2 a day) and now take 2 regular centrum. I may go back to a chewable though not because I can't swallow, no problem with that but I am not sure about the absorption of the whole pills. Same thing with calcium......make sure you take it every single day. Good luck with your quest and give my regards to both your sisters!! Linda
