Wanted to reintroduce myself...

I haven't been on the CT board in a very long long time so I figured I would reintroduce myself. My name is Nick, I had Lap RNY surgery on August 9th 2004. My highest weight pre-op was 350 lbs., at a little over a year out I was 170 and have been holding steady between 170-175 for the past 3 years. My surgeon was Dr. Crum who has since moved his practice from CT to TX. I am 37 years old, been married for 5 years, and live in Fairfield County. Just wanted to toss a post on here in case any people ever need someone to ask questions to.

Hey stranger....welcome back....I'm glad you are doing well!

WE ARE PUT ON THIS EARTH NOT TO SEE THROUGH EACH OTHER...BUT TO SEE EACH OTHER THROUGH

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one
hand,  mudslide in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and

BECOME THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE

So here's a question for you~....am I one of the few or are there actually more people who have had this surgery...who is SCARED TO DEATH of putting the weight back on....my highest weight was 277...I am down to the 150's.......I am so close to NOT being overweight....I have 6 pounds to lose and I will have a 'normal' bmi....in the past, I have lost over 100 lbs (at one time) twice....just to put the weight back on.....is it good to have this fear??  Will it keep me in check...OR....am I setting myself up for another failure??  I want my mind to be in the healthy person mode.....but I almost expect to be heavy again........I know, I know...I need ALOT of work!!  Any words of wisdom??

One of the biggest issues of having WLS to me anyways is the obstacle you have to overcome in your mind. I am a huge supporter of consulting a psychiatrist post-op to overcome the old overweight mindset. To this day after being almost 4 years post-op I have a reoccuring dream that I wake up one day and have put all of my weight back on somehow mysteriously overnight. I know it's not going to happen because my eating lifestyle has changed but I have a hard time grasping that after so many failures when it came to weight loss that I have finally overcome my demons. It's probably a healthy mindset to have because like you said..it will keep you in check. The tool we were given will always require our hard work and tweaking here and there...but have no doubt, that tool will always be with you and you can always make it work for you. Congrats on all of your success thusfar and continued in the future.
