Vinnie, Have some low fat yogurt, s/f popsicle, s/f pudding, cottage cheese (low fat), or any other "soft food" your doctor says you can have. I also suggest that you don't sit and eat with others who are eating right now. Call your doctor/dietician and ask them what you can do to help yourself. That's the best advice we can give! Good luck! Ann 314/267/150

Good advice Ann..Not sitting with others is important. You need to stay away from that as long as you feel uncomfortable. Protein drinks do fill you...just time it right. Joanie

Poor Vinny, That must be a horrible feeling. I am 3 weeks post-op and it has never bothered me when or what other people are eating. I don't know why either. I would also suggest not eating with them and also find some strategies to compensate for not eating. Going for a walk would be ideal if you are up to it. Are you experiencing real hunger or is it head hunger? If it's head hunger I do believe that passes in time. Good luck to you Vinny! Sandy

Vinny: What else are you allowed to have besides broth? I know at 1 week out I was pretty limited. I usually had my Ensure (2oz) when my family had dinner. Watching/smelling food did not bother me though. Maybe you just need to get out of the house at dinner time. Can you go for a short walk or if you are driving maybe run some errunds to get your mind off food? Since surgery I have not been hungry and most food seems very unappetizing to me. Best of luck to you. Chryssie

Hey Vinny! We were all praying for you when you went in for surgery! To be honest, I went through what you are going through now. What got me through it? Time, I guess. I cried a lot. It was a difficult time for me. I just stuck to my Dannon Yogurt and CIB. That's all I could do!! I wish you luck - you will get past this point, trust me! I am almost 11 weeks out and 59 pounds gone! Tara

Vinny, Only concerned with asking this type of question is it is up to your doctor. I would talk to him. I am 6 days post op but my doctor (Dr. Valin) keeps us on for two full weeks after surgery on the protein shake, sugar free pops, jello, broth, diet decarbonated drinks. That is it. So I would hate to advise you when I know my doctor is strict and although I am hungary when they eat I remember that this severe food restriction is only for 6 weeks and then we will be onto most anything (minus sugars, cakes brownies and they say raw fruits and veggi's) I am sure I am missing a few. We will be limited on the amount but after our protein first we can enjoy alittle. Hope this helps and call your doctor and explain your hunger, he/she will help you best! Good luck!

Hi Vinny, I know what you are saying. Although i don't have a family to cook for, my friend spent two weeks with me right after surgery. she was eating tons and tons of junk food...even though I am not a junk food eater, it was awful to watch someone else eat when I couldn't. I slept, walked, left the house, sat outside...did everything imaginable not to watch. My diet, like Chryssie's, was very limited...but I had a lot of "head hunger" the first few weeks. No I have to remind myself to eat. Good luck, stay strong! JA
