Yeah Lisa - I went to the board and found the post - if it is a hernia don't mess around and just go to the ER to be safe - I guess some hernia's can be very intense (like this woman's whose post I'm attaching)..... Please go to the hospital and please keep us posted.

Pain is a sign of a problem.  Go back to the ER, and if they have to admit you for nothing more than pain control, don't leave. Peter

OK so I had a horrible pain...lower left side...feared the worst being 7 months out...went to the ER, Yale New Haven-Shoreline Clinic--immediately they thought it was one of two things-ovarian cycst or diverticulotisis...I was surprised!  I thought for sure it was related to my bypass..but atlast it was not---so they did a CAT scan and I have diverticulotisis (am I spelling it right???)   Peter is right...if you are in pain, there has to be a reason for it...don't stop until they know why it hurts! I am praying for you! Jennifer

Thanks so much for your response. I am not sure what the pain is but they say I should wait till Dr Aranow comes back. And to be honest with you they put me on Prevacid and the pain has SUBSIDED (Spelling?) extremely. I am not sure if that means it was a gas pocket or an ulcer. Does anyone know how they check for an ulcer? I am VERY happy that they found your problem. What did they have to do for it to get it under control?

Prevacid is a proton pump inhibitor..... prevents the release of hydrochloric acid into the pouch. Gas would not be effected by a proton pump inhibitor. Does the pain go away after you eat?? Peter

Hey Peter, How have you been? I have to get to a meeting so I can see all of you again. The pain has been gone since I started the prevacid so I am not sure what it was but I will call Dr Aranow when he gets back this week and tell him see what he thinks. Take care and thanks so much for responding. Lisa
