Dr Valins Patientrs please answer.....
I have on big issue I was trying to have surgery with Dr. Bell I went through the protocol I got stopped at the psyc. evaluation he told me I had to research more on the change in my eating habits I understand that I have to commit the rest of my life to a strict diet which I have prepared myself mentally for. I spent hours reading profiles to see what kind of foods are acceptable after surgery how to eat which is important and I feel when I do meet with Chris at Dr.V's office. He will turn me down or tell me I am not ready I would like to be prepared ahead of time any suggestions on how I should approach this meeting when it does come down to it? What kind of person is he in the office setting? When I seen him at the seminar he seemed nice I am nervous about the evaluation I know it may be allittle soon to worry about that but my first appointment is the 13th with Debbie and next step is the evaluations that is not to far from that I am looking two weeks til I meet him maybe sooner. Just need advice on how to pass the evaluation. I know I am mentally ready for this I even have the support of my mom to make sure I will be eating right she is even gonna take a couple of weeks off work to help me basically learn how to eat again. I know I can do this I am a strong minded person what ever it takes to be that mother to my son I want to be I am in.What ever it takes to get off these meds and become healthier I am there.
It is important that you are mentally ready to make these changes. This is a lifetime commitment. I have seen people who hit the two year mark and start to gain weight back because they are struggling not only with food issues, but also with being thinner.
If Chris or any Psych evaluator feels that you should wait, I would take there advice. I know this is hard to hear, but this surgery does require work.
Chris is a really great guy and very relaxing to be around. I did not feel uncomfortable with him at all. I'm sure you'll do fine. Just be honest with him so he can help you in the best possible way.
Keep us posted.

Tasha:
What did the psychologist that Dr.Bell sends his patients recommed to you? Did you talk to Dr.Bell also? I would really take what they say seriously. You needs to be ready both mentally and physically for WLS. It is a major adjustment. Have you gone to any support group meetings or spoken to any post ops? There is a support group meeting at Yale this Tuesday at 6PM. There are alot of great books on WLS as well. I would recommend attending some meetings and reading everything you can get your hands on. You need to know the good and not so good as well as what changes you will need to make to your current life style. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me.
Best of luck to you.
