I have a question, I had my consultation with Dr. Aranow yesterday and he informed me I most likely have sleep apnea so I need to schedule for a test. I have called the doctor twice and the woman that answers the phone has no idea what I am referring to. She says we do not do tests here we only do consulations. Am I telling her the wrong thing, should I tell her I need a consulation to have the test or is she not getting it. Do I ask to make an appt to speak with the doctor. Can someone please help I have all my appts scheduled except for this one and the radiology(waiting for them to call me).

Sounds like you might be calling the wrong place . Did Dr. Aranow's office give you a number to call for the test? If so, call them back and make sure you have the right number. Hope you get your test soon. God Bless, Kathy Bilodeau Lap RNY 12/3/03 -98 lbs.

No I called and it was the right number but I got better news. While I was waiting for the nurse to call me back, I called Dr. Aranow's office to ask if I needed to see this particular doctor because I had a feeling that they did not take my insurance(Oxford health). The woman that answered said no it did not matter which doctor I went to for my sleep study, she said if the doctor does not then call my PCP and get a referral and a doctor. So I called the pulmonary doctor back and she confirmed that they do not partcipate in my insurance. I called my PCP and left a message and he just called me back and he said he would refer me to New Britain general hospital because they do the sleep study and I should be expecting a call from them. Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh Now I got to wait for them and Radiology to call me and make appts and and all my testing will have been scheduled. Thanks guys for listening.

Hi Latoya, Boy do I feel your fustration.....Dr. A wanted me to have a sleep study test but this was all handled by a pulmonary md....Dr Schwartz...who I absolutely love....first I had to have a consult with Dr. Schwartz and she was the one to order the sleep study. they will check with your ins to see what is covered and where. Warning these sleep study places are very busy I had to wait three months. If I had to do this again I would check with some of these places about availabilityand turn around time (it took two months for pulmonary md to get report) I"m sure other people can give you advise.....good luck angel
