Just recieved phone call from Dr. Valins office I have an appointment Monday for a seminar on Monday the 30th what happens next after the seminar. She asked my insurance info and told me that the only way they would approve the surgery is if I have Hypertension which I do so should I be happy or what. Oh by the way I have Medicare..

The seminar will be very informative, and they will go over the process there, but your next step will be to submit your letter of intention and set up and appointment for a consultation with Debby. She is great, then you will need to meet with the therapist for a psych eval and the nutritionist. After the nutritionist, you will do a protien diet. When that is done you will get a surgery date. Hope this helps, it goes by quickly once you get the consult.

Everything Carmen said....the seminar is great...you'll get a big packet of information. Once you sign your letter of intent, you get an appt with Deb. Don't do what I did...waited for them to send the letter to my doctor! I was lucky, I got the letter to my doctor and she wrote the needed letter to Dr. Valin very very quickly. This speeded up the process for me considerably. I went to the seminar on March 31st and had the surgery on July 6th....very fast when I hear how long it takes people who go to other doctors! If you follow directions and do everything they want you to do...you'll be fine. Dr. Valin is very nice, extremely competent and very experienced. I believe he has the most experience of any doctor in the state. Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing in the process! Ann

Seminar is very informative. Not just about the surgery, but also the hospital floor itself where you'll be staying. After you go to that and submit your paperwork, it can go very fast depending on your flexibility with appointments. When I made the decission to have Dr. Valin do my surgery, it was five weeks from my first visit that I had my surgery. (Very rare I know, but I don't work and was able to get in there at the drop of a hat) Please keep us posted. Maggie www.MaryKay.com/Mswietek

Actually everyone was right on but after you meet with the nutritionist and Chris Lodi (Psychotherapist) and Protein diet while waiting for my insurance they had me go to pre op which was EKG (or ECG) 10 vials of blood drawn a chest xray and an endoscopy (However you spell it). Then you meet again with the nutritionist and Psychotherapyst and they tell you exactly what you will eat and how you be after surgery. Then you meet with Dr. Valin and then you go to surgery. Somewhere in there you will hear from your insurance Company. I went to the seminar July 26 and am having surgery Sept. 3rd. The whole process took 4 1/2 weeks. THAT's IT!
