Cravings one week post op

I have been on liquids for 3 weeks now. I'm 6 days post op and I REALLY miss guzzling water. I find myself taking a big mouthful and just before I swallow it I remember I can only sip and I spit it back in the glass. So that is what I'm really missing. Also I have a craving for thin crust pizza. OMG wil it go away? I went to a spa party yesterday and had so many appitizers staring at me and there was some thin crust pizza. Uggh. But my hostess was a sweetheart and made me jello. Still it was tough. Then last night, my husband and I are DJs on the side and we had a gig, movie night in the E. Htfd Community Center. All was well till they started the popcorn machine. Uggh. Then after we came home my husband made his dinner and the smell was wonderful. Uggh What do I do!. I ended us pleading with God to help me through. It was actually the toughest day yet!

Hi, Tomorrow is my 2nd week anniversary from my banding.  I am  still on liquids and know  exactly how you are feeling.  Just keep thinking that this won't last much longer.  I see my doctor on Wednesday and am hoping I can go on mushies.  Keep your fingers crossed.  When do you advance to the next stage?  Remember you can do this!!!  How has your recovery been going?

Thanks for replying. Yes I have to keep thinking, this too shall pass, but sometimes it's just so hard. Recovery was tough. A lot of bloating and gas and I still have gas but it's not as bad. I see my doctor tomorrow. I've lost 5 lbs this week. Let's see, I think I'm going to stay out one more week from work. How about you? How has your reovery gone? Have you bee on liquids for 4 weeks? I've lost 22 lbs since I started liquids, that's the plus side.

Hi, My recovery is going well.  I am going back to work tomorrow.  I was on a pre-op diet which consisted of food and lost almost 10 lbs and have lost about 10 lbs since surgery.  I hope they will tell me I can start mushies on Wednesday.

Connie-  If you wanted to do something to try to distract you, think about picking up some Isopure Zero Carb (or some other very-low or zero-carb high-protein drink) and sip it when the craving****  The liquid will fill you and the protein will help take some of the edge off of the hunger.  But, you've already done the two most important things you could do (and helped to inspire this slightly jaded 5+ year post-op): you resisted the urges and, when it got really tough, you turned to your faith in God.

Thank you so much. Your right, I did resist, and I turned to God. That IS the most important thing. I went to church today and there was so much encourgement, it brought tears to my eyes. I just have to remember to keep him at the top of my mind so I can turn to him every time. When Jesus was tempted to eat while on a 40 day fast (40 days and I'm complaining about 4 weeks?****ep clinging to this passage and repeating "Man shall not live by bread alone but by eery word of God. I will remember about the protein drinks. Thanks so much THEN  Jesus was led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward tired and hungred.

3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God

Just wanted to say how much strength you showed in overcoming the cravings. I stil get them from time to time... some days are easier than others to fend them off.      What I did do this weekend that helped me regain focus and determination was pull out my size 28 pants that I wore less than a year ago and cringed when I saw the waist and how they fit me now..... I don't want to go back to that....    Best of luck on your journey, remember where here if you need motivation, to vent or anything :)

Thank you so much for the kind words and the motivation. We live in the same town, maybe we can go for a walk together sometime.

Smells used to get me too.  For a while they would mae me really WANT whatever I smelled...then after a while many food smells made me nauseous.  Go figure. I'll tell you this- If a dominoes delivery guy had mistakenly found himself ringing my doorbell while I was immediateyl post op- I would have grabbed that delivery SO fast, it would have probably ripped the tendons in his pizza carrying arm!  LOL.  Don't ask me what I would have DONE with it- since there was no WAY I could have eaten it.  I just WANTED it.   And- if this makes you feel any better- I had surgery a few weeks before Thanksgiving.  I actually had to sit at Thanksgiving Dinner and NOT EAT ANYTHING.  OMG!  It was torture.  (My MIL was nice enough however to make me homemade turkey broth, sweet lady.)

Best,

There is light at the end of the tunnel. Yes to the day the smells will make cringe. Thank you for your reply. I was going through doctors visits for surgery around thanksgiving and all I could think of was how  are those poor people doing during the holidays that just had surgery and how much I was glad it wasn't me. Maybe it should have been because I had the last supper syndrome and I gained 15 lbs since my initial visit during the holidays. So my hat goes off to you. That must have been torture! God Bless Connie
