I had my appt. with Dr. Aranow earlier today and he said I have a hernia. Anyone else have this problem preop? He showed me where it was and I felt it. Talk about GROSS!!!!

YES! I THINK IT IS QUITE COMMON. I HAD 2 C-SECTIONS I AM GUESSING THAT IS WHERE MINE CAME FROM. THEY DIDN'T FIX MINE WHEN THEY DID THE WLS BECAUSE I WAS TOLD THE BEST WAY TO DO IT IS WITH THE MESH. THE MESH COULD CONTAMINATE THE AREA WHILE DOING WLS. THEREFORE, I AM GOING TO WAIT UNTIL I AM CLOSE TO MY GOAL WEIGHT AND HAVE A TUMMY TUCK AT THE SAME TIME. MY UNDERSTANDING IS IF THEY FIX THE HERNIA WITHOUT THE ME**** WILL INEVITABLY BE BACK.

Oh no!!!! I'm so sorry. Did he say how this will effect your surgery? I hope it doesn't. Maggie

Dr. Aranow said that if it's really big when he goes in, he'll give me a couple of stitches to keep it in. If it's not bad, he'll save it to be fixed post op. Looks like a tummy tuck might not be impossible for me! I thought for sure I wouldn't be able to afford plastic surgery, but if it's covered because of the hernia, why not!!??

Insurance companies do cover hernia repairs. However, that is no guarantee to having a tummy tuck done. One issue should not be confused with the other. Peter
