I got my butt in gear today
Hi all. I hope everyones weekend went well. I finally got my butt in gear today. I went for a walk outside around my block. It was beautiful outside today. If I go twice its a mile exactly. So my friend and I went the first time...I was a little afraid to keep going so we stopped to get a drink after the first time around. About 20 minutes later we were off again and I completed my whole mile. I'm very proud of myself. I think I know why I have been hesitant to get out there. I think I'm embarassed. I know it sounds stupid but I don't want to be the butt of anyones jokes. Not everyone who sees me will think... "she's big but at least she's doing something about it". I don't know where this type of social anxiety is coming from. But anyway, I think I can get past it. Bye for now.

YIPEE FOR YOU!!
Thats wonderful Julie.. I also walked a mile today. While I was walking I kept thinking *I can't go one more step* I just kept telling myself how proud I would be of myself if I just walked to the next fence.. or the next car and before I knew it I had walked the mile. It was a beautiful day ..really awesom. Having a friend to walk with helps and I am proud of you that you are doing something that will help you be sucessful!..hugs for you

Julie,
One mile that soon post op is soo awesome. I remember just walking up the street tired me out!! Walking with a friend is the best. A neighbor who is the skinnest of skinny...has been walking with me since two weeks before surgery. She has been the best motivator... Some nights we just do 1.5 miles but lately we do 2.5 miles pretty regularly!! Our new thing is walking to Dunkin Donuts and I get a decaf coffee with skimmed milk...its my treat and I can count it as protein and liquid!! I hate exercise...and walking by myself is a chore. Some other neighbors have joined us occaisionally too...by the time we chat...the walk is over!! You are doing so great..don't worry about what others think...This is for you!! Keep up the good work!
Hugs

Congrats! You're doing great. To He** with what people may think! Those days are behind us now! I walk about 3 miles minimum daily and don't even look around when I'm doing it, cuz I'm giggling to myself that I CAN WALK AGAIN! I was so debilitated before the surgery that I always felt like I was walking up a steep incline, and now, although my feet hurt due to the arthritis, I can actually walk. So don't let the idiots get you down, and know that you are awesome and before long, you will be RUNNING and the guys will be whistling at you

Julie,
2 on being able to walk a mile so soon after surgery!! Don't worry about what anyone else thinks: Hold your head up high! You are doing such a great thing for your body and pretty soon, you will be seeing that you have walked that butt right off! Then who will be laughing???!!
Keep up the GREAT WORK!!!!
