I checked the sheets I was given at my 2 week check up and do not see anything about nuts (Almonds). What is the time frame we can try them? I don't plan on anytime soon since I can't even stomach tuna yet just wondering. They seem to be a good source of protein at 6g for 1oz. Thanks, Chryssie

Hi, Chrissie! It's weird - some people say their dr says "no nuts, no way." I've been eating them since I was about 12 weeks out and never had problem with any of them: peanuts, almonds, cashews, pistachios, brazils, hazels... In fact, I keep a bag of unsalted almonds in my glove compartment, since they made a nice, portable snack. I asked MY doctor about them this week (seeing how this questin has come up on the boards before) And he can't figure out why some drs would say they might be a problem.

Bette: Thanks. I used to love all sorts of nuts. I am just looking for something to crunch on a bit. I can not have raw veggies yet. I figure they are easy to pack & go too. Chryssie

Hi Chryssie, I have been a nut and cheese freak since two months out, I go thru withdrawl if I don't get my daily fix My surgeon didn't say we couldn't have nuts but just chew them good. The nutritionist on the other hand said to watch your intake as they are high in fat. I only have about a 1/2 cup. Darlene 309/230/???

Darlene: Thanks for the info. I am only 4 weeks out so maybe I should wait a bit longer to try them. I basically live on protein shakes anyway. This way I get my fluids and protein in at the same time!!! I just feel full all the time. I figured 1 oz was 6 grams of protein so it is a good way to get a little crunching in my life!!! Chryssie

Hi Chryssie, I am like Darlene, addicted to nuts. I did start out with almonds but have branched out to mixed nuts, pumpkin seeds, cashews, pistachios etc. I am trying to remember when I started eating the almonds and I think it may have been after about 4 weeks. They are kind of dry so don't push them too quickly, however they do travel well and I I carried around a bag of them for a few months especially when I was going somewhere where I wasn't sure what I would be able to eat. They helped with my bouncing blood sugar also. Don't forget that just because you can't eat something one day doesn't mean that it won't be great the next and visa versa. Its weird but you will get it down pretty quickly. You are doing great!! Linda

Linda: Good to hear from you and thanks for the info. Maybe I will wait 1 more week and then try a few almonds to see how they go down. They are easy to pack for a quick snack it needed. Thanks, Chryssie

Oh Chryssie, ya HAD to post about NUTS, huh? Actually REALLY glad you did! As you know, I'm addicted to nuts (hahaha I MEAN -- mainly almonds) and can swear that is where I gained a pound from. Now, we don't know this to be a fact, but I have my suspicions. Here at Star, there is a nut machine, like a gumball machine. You stick a quarter in and out comes a hand-full of almonds. Well, I walk past the sucker to get to the studio. I swear it cries and whines when I neglect it. So I come back with my quarter to feed this sad little nut machine and in return, it supplies me with a wonderous amount of protein, fat and a little bit of love. How can you say no to this? I just finished a few .. I feel a little guilty and I am going to schedule an appointment with my therapist. Tara

Hi Chryssie, I did try some almonds, and they worked ok for me. Thank GOD! However, the ol' chicken just won't stay. I tried it 2x and I That was not pretty! So, I am back to fish (shrimp, tuna). Try putting the tuna i the food processor before adding fat free mayo, it seems to make it smoother and easier to tolerate. I am turning into an egg! Had to take a break from them. I also took some ricotta cheese and some mozzarella cheese and baked it with tomato sauce, and that was soft and went down very well. I find that if I don't have to chew it, it works for me. Chewing isn't something my new pouch likes me to do Good luck, and keep us posted! JA

JA, That was very creative to put ricotta and mozz with sauce. Sounds like a safe and tasty meal. Great idea. Terri
