I cant attend the meeting tonight. Im hoping to have an Lap RNY, and Im looking for a surgeon that speciliazes in those. I dont care how far he is, I will travel. Ive read practically everything on this website thats pro and con about the surgery and Ive settled it in my own mind that I want to go for it. What do I do now? Whats my next step. Is there a list of step by step instructions on what steps we need to take. I called my insurance company and they wont tell me if the procedure is covered because I dont have the procedure number, but how can I get that, if I dont meet with the doctor until Ive completed all the paperwork. Im very confused about how to proceed and what steps to take next. Can you anyone help?
Hi Lauren, just wanted to give you some info. I found the procedure number for a couple of the surgeries just not quite sure which is which. I know 43846 is for RNY but was also given 43845 and 43844 but not sure which those are for. If you call your insurance they can tell you. As for meetings go Yale has their next meeting on September 7th from 6-7:30. You are welcome to come up with me if you like. I am just next door. Heidi
Yes Heidi, its a date, we will go together to Yale. I have chosen Dr. Bell for the procedure and my paperwork is on its way. My diet journal is all done. I kept a journal all my life so they are getting the whole thing. I have dates, names, times weightloss, the whole enchillada for 30 years. I think that will knock their socks off. I got the code, and called my insurance. The procedure is covered and the only pre-approval they need is a phone call a week before the surgery letting them know Im going to be admitted to the hospital. The only thing thats going to be difficult is convincing my husband and son. and seeing if my PCP is going to be against it or not. Im not sure how he is going to feel and Im alittle worried about that. How do I get my personal info to you so we can be in touch outside of here?
Lauren
LAUREN, I AM ATTENDING DR. CRUM'S 0-6 MOS POST OP ON THIS WEDNESDAY. CALL HIS OFFICE 203-838-5344 AND SEE IF IT MAKES SENSE FOR YOU TO GO TO THIS ONE - I HAVE MET PREOP PATIENTS AT THESE MEETINGS - IT IS AT NORWALK HOSPITAL - I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM - I DID USE ALL MY OWN PREOP CLEARANCE DOCTORS IN MY OWN AREA AND LOCALS FOR BLOODWORK TOO - - LAP IS ALL HE DOES AND HE HAS DONE A LOT OF THEM - BE SURE TO ASK HOW MANY THE SURGEON HAS DONE LAPRASCOPICALLY AND HOW LONG IT TAKES - MINE TOOK 1 1/2 HOURS - NO COMPLICATIONS - IF YOU DECIDE TO GO MAYBE I CAN INTRODUCE MYSELF TO YOU WHEN YOU ARE THERE - GOOD LUCK!!
Lauren, I am going through the process for possible lap-band, and my surgeon is Dr. Barba at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford. I know he does both lap procedures and I have high faith in him (I worked at SFH when he was a mere trauma surgeon and like his outcomes as well as his personality) I also have BC/BS and I am told they cover lap RNY but initially deny lap-band. They (the MD office) assure me that they almost always get it turned around on appeal. So I am hopeful. The lap-band meeting is tommorrow 8/17 6-8pm and RNY Tues 8/31 6-8pm at his office (located at SFH medical office building.) Hope this helps.....Jen
