Freezing
I know that after surgery you are cold since you lose your "insulation". Here is my question... How soon does that start? I have been freezing since I left the hospital. I know it has been cold here but I have NEVER been this cold. I only warm up when I am in the car and crank the heat so it's about a million degrees. Does this mean I wont be so hot in summer? There had better be a trade off some where for this freezing.
I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.

Kathy - Same thing happened to me right after surgery - came home freezing and I am still freezing. I got an electric blanket from Kohls (40% off) that keeps me nice an toasty warm at night. I also work from home three days per week and use it during the day while I am working to keep me warm - or else, on conference calls, my teeth are chattering - seriously. When I go to work the other two days a week I dress in layers to keep me warm. I'm usually one to be out in the cold without a jacket - now I bundle up bc I am freezing. I am hoping the same thing as you - that come summer time, I won't be dying of heat!!!
Yup! You are totally normal. Happened to me right after surgery and 4months later I'm still COLD! BRRRRRRRRR..... from what I have been told, its not so much insulation (although I'm sure that has some play in it) as it is our body having to decide, keep us warm or keep us going? We aren't consuming as much as we use to and therefore the energy the body has is used to keep us going, active and burning but since it doesn't have enough fuel for everything our body heat goes... and from what my doc said, women get it worse...
I have layers, tons of turtlenecks, thick pants, extra blankets and even space heater (one at work under my desk and a second one at home by my computer desk in the living room). Things i never would have wanted, used or had before surgery now are life savers cause I'm always cold... I do hope that summer time I'll be basking in the heat and not complaining it's to hot ;-)... then agian you can all remind me of the winter cold if I do complain.... :-)
Kathy, when I weighed 360 lbs., I would go the entire winter without ever - or hardly ever - wearing a winter coat. People would be amazed, stunned, and I'd say, "I'm built like a polar bear!" trying to make light of it but crying on the inside. Now, at 145 lbs., I can barely tolerate these winters! Some days, I can't stop shaking. It can't be metabolism because I work out regularly. So I've learned to accept that I will probably always be cold and just be thankful that I am! And down winter coats are a godsend! Be well, sweetie. Maureen
