I heard that on Gary Craig yesterday AM and couldn't believe it. I was enraged when they were making fun of her so I called into the station. Once I started explaining how rude and insensitive they were the person on the other line said "You must be fat yourself". WTF??? I just responded "No, I'm human" and hung up. I will never listen to his radio show again. I'm thinking of writing to the station and letting them know I will never listen, and I will tell everyone who will listen why. What a tragic story. -Deb

Seems like lots of radio people thought this story was funny. I call it just plain sad. This woman must have been terribly depressed and her husband must have been equally depressed to allow her to get this bad. I know that most people who are obese really don't want to hear it from other people-I know I didn't like it when my partner would start to "nag" me, even though she did it in the most supportive manner she could think of. We were talking about this situation last night and what we don't understand is why this woman stopped moving. Lots of people weigh as much as she did, but they are up and moving around. It's when you stop moving that the big problems start to pile up and the depression sets in, IMHO. I was starting to get to that state prior to my surgery, walking upstairs wore me out, my knees hurt, my hips hurt, my back hurt. I could have sat on the recliner and chilled out...but I knew that I had to keep moving. It's such a sad story and the rest of the world doesn't understand the toll that obesity takes on people-physically and emotionally...so they make jokes. Ann

I had heard about this story on the radio as well. I don't know what station Gary Craig is on, but I'd be up for forming a complaint committee!! First of all, to laugh and make fun of someone who obviously suffered a fate we can't even imagine for ourselves is crude, but then to insult you when you call to offer an opinion. That makes me furious!!! I can feel nothing but extreme sympathy for this woman, and incredulity that no one in her family or her friends would think to call the doctor sooner. My goodness!! O'my God...All I can say is, there by the grace of God go I. That could have been any of us! Such a sad story. Hopefully, because of this surgery, there will be fewer stories like this one. JA
