Six week Post op eating
I am almost six weeks post op and I can feel that I am able to eat more food than I used to. I don't like having this feeling already...so I stop myselfI am still only eating 2oz of protein at a meal and some vegetables or fruit...just wondered if I didn't stop myself..would I be stretching my pouch. It seems before I would get that feeling to stop...because one more bite would make me hurt...How much can our pouches take six weeks post op...a quarter cup of food??? Any information would be helpful. I have a call in to the nutritionist...and will ask her the same question.
Joanie down 31 lbs!
Yes, you can eat more. If we all had to survive on 1 oz of food, we would all be dead within a few months.
The physical reason is not a stretching of the stomach, but the reduction of swelling of the stomach as well as the stoma. There is now more room for food, and the pouch can empty faster.
If you eat too much would you stretch your pouch>> Yes. But it is only temporary.
How much can you eat at one time? It depends on what you eat. At that time in my post-surgical existance, I could eat anywhere from one ounce to 4 oz, depending on what it was that I was eating. Some foods just go down easier. That's alll there is to it.

Hi Joanie
I think you are doing fine. Our imaginations start playing games on us, knowing we can only have so much in our pouches and seeing what is going in, we think it is more than we are supposed to have. I bet if you really take a look at what you are eating you will see it is within the limits. I do think you should be getting in more protein than you are getting. The veggies and fruit will come later.
Your okay.
