I dumped!
O'well the honeymoon is over I guess. At my egg as usual, but decided to try a piece of a low carb, low fat english muffin with it, and guess what? I !!! It wasn't pretty, but felt better than having it stuck in my throat!
Lesson #1 - JA don't eat bread!
Tomorrow I return to work. This should be interesting. I am going to go and pack lunch, breakfast and a snack...Hope it all stays in!
Talk to you'll tomorrow.
JA
JA,
I have never even vomited since the surgery...and I am over 5 weeks out...but the two times I have had bread untoasted..I felt like I ate a ball of dough after two small bites! Dumping is more severe than just vomiting--right? I haven't found too much that I cannot eat..but have not ventured out too much past chicken and salads.
Joanie
Hi Joanie,
It was toasted, but I think with the egg, it was too dry. Stuck in my throat and stomach and felt like a cement stone was stuck. I think this was dumping or plain ol' puking! YUCK! I won't try it again, and cuz I'm returning to work tomorrow, I'll stick to what works...don't want to have any episodes at work.
I haven't tried salad yet, can't actually. I'm three weeks out tomorrow. So I try fish, then chix. Most folks say chix is the hardest to digest. Did you have any problems with it?
JA
JA,
I did at the beginning..but when I learned to chew it to a paste consistacy it went down better..then I also added some fat free canned gravy just to moisten it. Good luck going back to work...its exhausting at first...but it feels good to get back into the normal routine! Take it easy JA...
Joanie
Hi JA
I'd guess that it was the bread. It takes most of us many, many months before we can eat any type of bread - some people can never eat it without problems. That lump in your stomach feeling that won't go away for hours, is from the bread. It feels like its been squeezed into a ball and gets stuck.
I had no problem with chicken, but I made sure it was nice and moist, and I chewed, and chewed and chewed.
God Bless,
Kathy Bilodeau
Hey JA,
Well my dear, from the sounds of it you are moving along a bit too fast. At this point you should only be eating soft foods, like eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed up tuna with some lowfat (I prefer Helman's Just 2 Good) mayo, oatmeal, applesauce etc. The toast was probably too dry, your pouch isn't healed enough for that kind of stuff yet. Try bringing some string cheese etc. for lunch and snacks at work. You will be adding new things soon enough. I will try to call you tomorrow afternoon to see how the day is going. Will be out of the office in the am. Gots to go to the dentist.....Yuck!

Hi JA
Glad to hear you are going back to work. Sorry to hear about your episode with the english muffin. From experience, I stayed away from carbs for as long as I could. After your protein at this level, you shouldn't have room for any carbs. Keep your body burning the fat, don't incorporate carbs yet. I did not have much carbs for the first 5 months, hard to believe, but my nutristionist said that once you start it, you will start to crave it. She was right, body slowed down burning fat. Once that stops, it takes longer to start back up. Just passing along my experience for what its worth. Hint for some chicken cutlet, dip it in Wish bone Fat Free dressing, delicious. Let us know how your first day back went.
Hope it goes well.

Don't despair! This is how many of us learn our limits ... the hard way. I would stick with soft food a little longer. I know that lovely feeling when I'm about to all too well. It doesn't happen nearly as often now, but in the beginning it happened to me about once a week if I ate something too quickly. Pay attention to the message your body sent you, and keep plugging along. You're doing fine!!
