Need opinions on Rehab centers
Hello to everyone in CT:
I would like to know if any of you spent time at one of these facilities:
"Hospital for special care" in New Britain
"Gaylord" in Wallingford
"The rehab hospital of Connecticut" in Hartford
Could you tell me what your likes or dislikes were, any complaints etc. I have been leaning toward the New Britain hospital since the beginning. Gaylord would be a painfully long drive for me because I live in eastern CT. But if it was the better choice, then I would consider it. I know Cheryl from my previous post had suggested HSC, and thank you Cheryl. Any thoughts?? or possibly other locations I could check out that arent listed above.
And thank you all for the kind words of support
Sincerely,
Pete
Hi Pete:
I've done some research and here are some links you might want to check out. First of all, I recommend you dial Infoline - it's "211" on your phone. They can get you a complete list of Connecticut Rehabilitation Centers and they even might have some more information on each.

By the way, my sister spent many years at Gaylord and from what I understand, it's an excellent facility. She is now in a home in Brookfield (next to Danbury - far from you).
Good Luck!

HI PETE!!!
FIRST OFF I WANT TO SAY THAT I AM GLAD TO HEAR THE NEWS OF TERRI'S CONDITION GETTING BETTER. I HAVEN'T POSTED IN LIKE THREE WEEKS DUE TO COMPUTER PROBLEMS. AND I JUST SAW THIS POST ABOUT REHAB CENTERS. I CAN'T SAY WHICH IS THE BETTER CHOICE, BUT I WILL SAY THAT I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT THE BEST CARE FROM GAYLORD HOSPITAL IN WALLINGFORD. I HAVE SEVERE OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA AND ASTHMA AND I USE THIER RESPIRATORY SERVICES AS WELL AS THEIR SLEEP SERVICES LAB AND I ABSOLUTELY RATE THEM A 10!!!!!!! I GET GREAT QUALITY CARE AND THE STAFF ARE VERY PLEASANT. I AM NOT AFFILIATED OR KNOW ANYONE WHO IS WITH THEM. THIS IS JUST AN HONEST OPINION FROM ME. I HOPE YOU FIND THE BEST OPTION FOR TERRI AND YOUR FAMILY, AND TERRI AND YOUR FAMILY WILL BE IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS. GOD BLESS AND TAKE CARE!!!!!
BEST WISHES,
MARY
Hi Pete,
I spent 6 weeks at Gaylord this year. I had been at Yale and had complications from gallbladder surgery. I went to Gaylord for rehabillitation after leaving Yale. I was literally unable to stand on my own let alone walk. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff, the co-ordination of care and all the programs that were made available to me including follow up for home care once I left. The therapists were wonderful, the nurses were very qualified and the aides were the best. They included my whole family in everything as far as my care was concerned.
I'm not quite sure why you are inquiring about rehab centers, but if you'd like to e-mail me, I'd be glad to answer any questions I can.
I would not hesitate in recommending Gaylord. I too felt that for my family it would be a long ride but I thought it was more important to go to a facility that is the best in the state from what I've been told.
I hope this has helped and best wishes to you,
Mary Lou
