Update on Terri T
Greetings:
It's been awhile since I updated. Sorry about that!. This is also the first time I've posted to the Connecticut board. I'm still learning to navigate around this website.
Well for those of you who have been following this from the beginning, she is now on day 38 in the ICU ward at St. Francis
The good news is she is very responsive and alert. Although she still cannot talk yet due to the trach, she is able to smile frown etc. Her vitals are looking good, her breathing has gotten a lot better, she is taking longer deeper breaths on her own with very little support from the vent. We had a problem a couple days ago with a infection cause by the IV, that has been cleared up and is no longer a problem. All sedative and antiboidic drips have been discontinued.
I will be holding a meeting with the doctors sometime this coming week to discuss what the plan will be next. But I suspect they will try to let her breathe completely on her own and see how it goes. She is improving rapidly by the day and is becoming a handful for the nurses
Rehab I'm sure will be discussed also, I would like to keep her where she's at, but she is going to need special assistance as far as standing, walking, talking etc. They have already hit me with 3 possible locations. And if she keeps improving, I'll probably have to decide this week.
I had brought my older son in tonight to see her. He noticed the weight loss right away, it's been a couple of weeks since I had him up there, unlike me I'm up there constantly so I dont notice the bigger changes. We did the math tonight (they weigh in kg) and it put her currently around 290-293. When she went in, she was around 354. So she lost 50-60 lbs in 30 days. Whooooaaaa She will enjoy that part when she gets back on her feet. Although privately, I was alarmed at that much weight loss in such a short time. Breakfast, lunch and dinner has been through the IV, that vanilia pudding I call it contains everything the body needs.
Not much longer to go!
Sincerely,
Pete (Husband)
Pete,
Thank you soooo much for the update on Terri. It is good to hear that she is making progress. Sounds like it won't be too much longer before they move her to a regular room and then on to Rehab. Alot of the rehab places are really good. You might want to ask around though for some opinions from folks on here who have been to them personally. They can tell you better than anyone. Please congratulate Terri on her weight loss. Actually that amount of weight in a month is not unheard of with WLS and of course just having the IV's has been a factor. Please give your family a big hug for all of us. You all have been just great and I am sure that Terri knows how truly blessed she is to be married to you. Take care and keep us updated.
Linda
Hi Pete,
I am also thankful for the update on Terri. I hope she knows how lucky she is to have such a dedicated husband like you!
I also agree with Linda about the rehab. I am partial to The Hospital for Special Care as I know they will keep her walking. I have one person I know that went to Gaylord and they didn't move her enough and as a result she had problems. So really ask about that when you are making your decision. How often do they get them out of bed and move? It's just so important for clots and other things.
Don't be alarmed at the food intake right now, the nutrients she is getting IV are really good for her.
Please keep us posted!
Cheryl
Pete:
Thanks for the update on your wife. I am happy to hear her breathing is getting better and that she might be getting out of ICU in a little bit. It will be amazing for her when she is up and about with her new weight loss. (60 pounds in 30 days though .. wow!)
I'm still praying for Terri and I know she will be just fine. One day this will be an experience you will talk about together and it will be behind you both!
Best wishes,
Tara
Pete,
Terri is so lucky to have you by her side! She's been in our prayers for a while and it looks like it's helping.
I too, am a Dr. Barba patient and have been following Terri's progress here on line. Give her all my best as well as big congrats on the huge weight loss! Tell her she can look forward to next summer in a bikini!!
Take care,
Dee
THanks for the update. I was curious about her last week and asked her sister and she said things were the same. But its nice to get some details as we are all thinking about her, praying for her and your family. I will continue to keep your family in our prayers. I am also partial to HFSC in New Britain. Being involved in my community, I know lots of people who work there and also those who have rehabilitated there. It comes highly recommended and something worth checking out!
Keep us posted.
P.S. Kudos to you for all that you have done. Taking care of a sick loved one can be very demanding and stressful, sounds like you are a very special man!
