Hi Everybody Last night I went to pre-operative information session. It was alot of informations to prepare for surgery but I felt badly for the dietican who is not preparing for lecture but I understand she is so new in Dr Aranow's dept. It was nice to meet you Carrie,Terri, Tammy, Jim, Fred and other people I met ( I would like to get know you better each time I see you smile) When I came home from that meeting, My son is waiting for me then he began nagging me about letting him plays youth football . At first I said no it is too much pratice and it is too much for me to being taxi mom everydays but he said his best friend who lives on same street , his mom or dad will take him to pratice for me. FINE Here I will be very busy this fall for football games, my surgery coming up.... My son s face is so happy but I made him deal..... he have to do his homework first before he goes to football practice and must pass his grade c above thank you for listening my vent!!! I will go to New Haven yale support group tonight Hope to see you there Kathy K

Hi Kathy. It was good seeing you last nite. I, too, could feel the dietician's newness. I do hope she learns powerpoint. But she was informative. I also wanted you to know I was very apprehensive about my son playing football. He ended up playing it all thru high school and it was the best thing for him. Kept him grounded. Not to mention I had leverage. No school work ... any trouble ...no football. See ya next week Linnie

My son plays pop warner football and it is a huge comitment. The good thing about sports is they usually monitor the kids grades. I know pop warner requires us to turn in their most recent report card and they dont allow anything under a C. Also for the kid with the best grades they give a small sum for college. I plan on being at the support group tonight so I hope to see you there.

Good morning Kathy and everyone else, I know I have been a stranger to the board lately but I just haven't had the desire to sit at the computer. I'd much rather be outdoors but I have very much missed all of you. We just got back from a week at the Cape. It was so wonderful to be able to do everything that the rest of my family and friends were doing. It's been a very long time since I have been able to do as much. I can relate to the football saga! My boys are 14 and 16 and play high school football. They have been in weight training all summer. It is a very big commitment. I try to be as committed as well by walking the track while I am waiting for them to finish their workout. Have a great day! Carolyn

Carolyn, It's so great to see you! I'm happy it's all good things that have kept you busy these days. How was the Cape? Crowded as usual? I have 2 girls and one is a life gard and the other swims on the team there. It is never ending! Keep in touch! Cheryl

Kathy, It was good to meet you in person also. I got there pretty late, we had toddler issues at home. Anyway, I hope to meet more of you next time! I came in at the middle of Kim's presentation and thought she touched on a lot of really good points as far as expectations go. I remember when I first started thinking about this surgery, I thought it was a fool proof cure all that would stop me from ever gaining weight again. I am so glad these support groups and informational sessions are here to get a better understanding and more realistic expectation of what is on the other side of surgery, like modifying the way I eat- forever. It was a LOT of information! Kathy, you asked a lot of great questions. I was also wondering about what stages we will be on while in the hospital and where to get all these protein powders. I left the meeting with a feeling of hope and a little more confidence in myself that I CAN do this. Dr. A's office called me yesterday and I have to visit the dietician next Friday, so I need to get on the stick with my pre-op eating plan and lose my weight for surgery!! Kathy, both my nephews were in youth football and they both play/played in high school. It was a great way to keep their grades up and them out of trouble. My oldest nephew just graduated from High School and is about to start his 1st semester at CCSC with a full football scholarship! You are right, it is a huge committment on the parents part with all the taxiing and games, but it is really worth it. I am glad that there are neighbors who can help out too. Makes things a little easier. Good luck! Terri

Kathy: I'll bet you really made that little boy happy! That was wonderful for you to agree to let him play football. Exercise is so important for children. Now that there is Playstation and Pay Per View and Tivo, kids are RARELY outside. I actually have a smile on my face when I turn the corner to my street and see all the little kids on their bikes or running around. I know parents don't have as much time now as they used to because families now need 2 incomes to survive, but we ALWAYS have to put our children first. We lose sight of that a lot. I do it too (working nearly 80 hours a week). Take pics of your son in his uniform when you can! Gotta love boys! Tara

Hi Kathy from California. I'm doing great and having a great time. I've got a great tan going. (I'm Irish, so that is unusual for me) I'm just relaxing and having a great time. Saturday I'm going to meet someone from CA who I met on another WLS board. We're going to go out Salsa Dancing in LA. Should be loads of fun. I'll have pictures I'm sure. I miss my husband terribly. He won't be joining me for another week and then we'll do the zoo and Sea World. I had a minute to check posts, so I wanted to report in. Hope everyone has a great day, Maggie
