Need some help.
Ok guys, last night I went out to dinner to a place we always go on Sundays. It's a family owned place so we know everyone there. I got scrambled eggs with some cheese on them. I don't know if I ate too fast, took too big of bites, or didn't chew good enough. I ended up throwing everything up. I had no feeling of fullness, (I usually don't but that comes in a sec.****ill right before I got sick. Any advice?
Now for fullness. I know they say stop when you are feeling full. I don't feel full until I get sick. Is this normal? I know I do start to burp A LOT before I get that sick feeling. Is that a sign that I am full and should stop? Or should I just call Dr. A? I was going to ask tonight at the support group until I realized that there isn't one tonight for us.
I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.

Because you can't feel when are full because your pouch is still healing that is why it is so very important to weigh and measure you food.
I am 3 1/2 months out and I'm just now beginning to feel full, but up until this time I would measure my food and weigh it so I would not over fill my pouch which can make you sick and throw up. I also burp and/or hickup before I get full and I take that cue to stop eating and will still use that as a measurement because now that I do get that full felling it is uncomfortable so I like to stop before I get to that point.
Glad you are doind well.
Kathy - An egg or egg and a half was probably too much. To put it in perspective, this is what my doc had me do - scramble an egg and then eat ONLY one tablespoon per sitting. That's all your stomach can handle at this point if you were given a 1 oz pouch. I'm seven weeks out now and can now eat an entire egg. The one time I tried last week to eat a little more, I had to put the fork down bc I just knew I would get sick if I ate another bite. I didn't throw up but I did feel sick to my stomach for a few hours.
Not to get nit-picky with you here kathy- just trying to help-
But saying you had an egg to and egg and a half (with cheese in additon, I assume) kinda actually shows that you ate too much...even though you think it wasn't 'that much'.
You must- at this early stage ESPECIALLY portion out your food before you eat- even in a resaurant- actually- ESPECIALLY in a restaurant. get a bread plate and take off the apropriate amount of food (talk to the NUT if you don't know the right OZ you should be eating and ask her how to vizually estimate that amount) from your main plate- put it on the little plate and only eat that -or less- if you have any indications of fullness at all. Burping is one, runny nose is another early sign, hiccups for some people too, a tight feeling in the throat, etc. Have your server take the rest of the plate away to be wrapped.
Don't talk while you're eating (easy when you're in a social environment). Don't drink while you're eating (easy to slip up when you're in a restaurant and it's in front of you) When you're eating- EAT and concentrate on your body.
Also- eggs can be a problem for some people so- keep that in mind.
Sometimes in this process- it's live and learn. You make a mistake- you firgure it out and you solve it for next time.
hang in there-

PS
Personal story: Post surgery I couldnt eat 'socailly' for quite a while- I did not pay attention to my comsumption, talked while eating and grazed through meals that I ate with other people- all No-Nos. Also, I found that I could not count on the food being prepared in the way I needed it to be (BLANDLY with no added oil, fat, butter etc) so- after a few horrid experiences, I stopped eating out for about 6 mos. I still WENT out and 'ate' with hubby only he'd eat and I'd drink tea. I ate before we left home.
That single egg with cheese may have been to much for your pouch...
Another things could be how it was prepared... what was used in its cooking... when I do eggs at home I use non stick cooking spray, anything to greasy or oily and I get sick.
For me burping is a sign that i have to stop and NOW! If I don't heed the burping I will more than likely be sick soon...
As for the feeling full that didn't happen until the last month or so, and I still don't always feel it or feel it right away, which is why I still measure my food.
Hi Kathy - Burping is definitely a sign to stop eating! Although almost all doctors have eggs listed as a "mushy" food - I found eggs to be one of the hardest foods for me to tolerate early out - I know the band is different then the RNY but I really don't think they're that easy for your stomach to digest -
Like anything with this surgery - if you need the peace of mind you should absolutely call your doctor - but it sounds like you are doing fine and just in a learning curve.

Hi Kathy,
I agree with the "how it was cooked" theory--for me at least, I still get sick if something is cooked with too much fat--I have learned to ask what is in everything, (much to my children's dismay-I embarass them when I ask)--do you like poached??
You are doing great..and should be very proud!
Keep losing!
