Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone attends an Overeaters Anonymous meeting and if so is it helpful and where do you attend? I went to one meeting about 4 years ago and it didn't seem to be the thing for me. I would like to try again as I am having a really hard time (eating too much, probably due to stress) I heard their was a meeting in Norwich at Backus Hospital but now I can't find out any information Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also I would be interested in hearing if anyone attends any other weight loss support groups and find it helpful? Tops? Weigh****chers etc... ty

Hi Kathy, I was planning on attending the support group but went to the one at Saint Francis instead. Unfortunately they were on the same night. How did the group go? Is there a schedule or something for the groups? What day in September is the next one?

I have tried all three of those support groups (a few times each!!)and none of them seemed to help me much. I didn't like the group atmosphere and it just wasn't my "thing". I do enjoy Dr. Aranow's support group meetings immensly though. I couldn't put my finger on why until I was talking with Lisa before last week's group and she pointed out that at WW, OA and the like, that a lot of the people there were trying to lose 10-15 lbs. While I realize to that person that is a big deal to them it definately wasn't a big deal to me since I need to lose over a hundred pounds. I couldn't relate and I found it discouraging instead of encouraging. If you have a surgeon selected I would suggest trying to make their support groups. While the groups don't offer a weigh in or a diet per se, I think just showing up as often as you can and hearing of such inspiring stories of others is enough for me to keep plugging along on my diet before I have the surgery. It also helps to know what I will experience in the weeks and months ahead. I also know that one day I will be on the other side and it will be my oppurtunity to inspire someone else and that keeps me going too.
