Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can find a babysitter for my 4 year old? I've been looking for someone for a few months and having no luck. This would be for the occassions when my husband and I would like to go out for some time alone. Right now, we get no alone time. Any ideas? Thanks a bunch!!! Tara

With a six, four and three year old at home I am constantly on the look out for babysitters! I just ask around. I will stop older teenage girls on their bike rides around the block and ask them if they babysit. I got a really good babysitter from my daughter's gymnastics school (the sitter was a teacher assistant there). You could post at a local college for one. Most colleges have bulletin boards for notes like these. When you do find a baby sitter ask her if she has friends that also babysit so when your "regular" is busy you have a back up or two. You are in Ansonia? My nieces live there but not sure if they do babysitting any longer. I could ask them if you would like but I think they got "real" jobs for the summer. Do you have any friends with older kids? I have gotten a few babysitters that as well. You could post a note in the grocery store where they have those green and yellow card places. You could advertise in the newspaper too. Sheesh, reading this you would think I don't like to spend any time with my kids, lol. I love my kids but being a SAHM I also know that I need some time apart as well! Good luck in your search.

Eileen: If you could ask your neices, that would be wonderful!! I do not know anyone that has older kids because my kids are older than most from parents my age. I am semi-new to Ansonia and don't really know anyone. I have neighbors, but not very trustworthy. Now that you mentioned the grocery store, I will look to see if there are thing posted from those LOOKING TO babysit. That's an excellent idea. I am going to start with that tomorrow!!! I am afraid to put my personal information up .. too many perverts out there. Thanks so much for taking the time to post, I appreciate it!!! Tara

Hi Tara, I found babysitter by going to town hall where they have a program for babysitter for teenagers who lives near your hometown. Try to call your town hall to give you phone number to contact the right person Good Luck! I do understand you need time alone with your husband once a while. WE do all too Kathy K

What good ideas! I always have a tough time finding a sitter and never thought of calling my town hall. If anyone is interested in getting together with kids and having a play date, that would be fun! Maybe then we can get to know each other and trade baby-sitting duties some time.

How old are your kids, Debbie? I have a six year old son and a four (almost five) year old daughter and a 3.5 year old daughter.

Wow Eileen! You have your hands full! I think Debbie's suggestion of a play date would be wonderful!

Kathy's sugestion reminded me that you can also try the red cross. They offer a babysitting program and maybe they have a list of referrals.
