Hi everone, I was thinking, since protein is such a key to not only our WL success but to our health in general, I thought I would start a post where we can list our favorite ways of getting in our required amount of protein. I love seafood, and I'll keep a bag of med/large cooked, frozen shrimp handy. Thaw 4-5 and it makes a great high protein/low carb snack or meal. I also love seafood salad. I'll make my own with a bit of lo fat mayo and horseradish for a kick. What are your protein pleasures?

Deb -- Great minds think alike! I'm a huge fan of seafood, so it really gets me through. I do like to vary things & have found that lamb chops are a nice way to get in some protein, and I do indulge occasionally in some fresh mozzarella - yummy!!! My afternoon snack usually consists of some sort of protein drink - either Nectar Fuzzy Navel or EAS Advantage. It requires no preparation time and they taste pretty good. Especially the Nectar -- it gives a huge protein boost.

1. Beef jerkey...(OK, so pre-op I would have said EEEEEEEEWWWWWW! to that!) Gotta watch it though because of the sodium. And, you know, the darn stuff is expensive! 2. Canned tuna. Basically, because I'm lazy and don't like to cook in the summer heat. tuna is high in protein and easy on preparation. Also, I can leave a can in the work pantry and have a handy snack

This is a good one Deb, I should be clucking for all the chicken I eat. I marinate a bunch of chicken tenders in Good Seasons Italian Dressing then I grill it. For the week I have green salad with it, mix in some mayo and have that on pita's, or sometimes in a taco. But my favorite is fresh mozerella and tomatos and basil now that my garden is producing! yum! How is your hair??

Ahhh, the hair...brittle as all heck, and looking pretty ragged. It's worse than when it was falling out at 2-4 months out from surgery. I go for bloodwork Thursday with my regular PCP, Dr Aranow's office FINALLY called me back and seem to think it's non-WLS related. I dont care, I just am tired of waking up with enough hair on my pillow to make a small braid. Stay tuned.

I absolutely DETESTED it before my surgery, but now I can't seem to get enough of tofu! Maybe because it's so squishy! I also have been enjoying many more kinds of fish than previously, and like to jump-start my protein day with a shake (I use skim milk and a mix sold at Trader Joe's called "Aria"). I've also gotten to like a banana flavored hot cereal by Keto.

Excellent subject, since we are all so concerned about protein. The responses have helped me quite a bit. I am a huge fan of Nitro-Tech bars and really push the chicken and the seafood (shrimp and salmon). Once I can start eating salads, I am going to put the chicken and shrimp on a bed of lettuce. Mmmmm Seafood salad sounds yummy! What kinda seafood do you put in the lo-fat mayo? Wow, I am craving this now. Gonna have to run to the grocery store to get some more seafood! Tara
