HELP!!!Dr Barba patients.................
I was meeting with them last fall preparing the surgery. I had all the pre ops done. I got sick and then one thing led to another and I gained weight instead of losing. I was going for the lap band. Now I think I want the bypass instead. Did anyone else do this?
Some of my tests were done last August. Will they still be good?
Also, once all appointments are done, how long does it take to get an appointment with Barba?
How long of a wait is there now?
Any help would surely be appreciated.

Thank you so much for your help. I did call their office today. I have an appointment with Judy in August, the group meeting for rny's. I had the meeting for the lap band before. I am hoping after that meeting, I will get the appointment with Barba. I was told they are booking about 2 months after last appointment. Then it will be another 2-3 months for surgery. My test should be okay./ I may have to have a quick followup appointment with some of the doctors but not go through the entire process again.
Good luck to you too. I will also keep you in my prayers.
Joanne,
I too am a patient of Dr. Barba's. Finished my last consut, with the nutritionist on July 13th. Called the office and was informed that they had about 50 patients they were trying to get scheduled in to see Dr. Barba, so I should wait for their call.
If I hear anything I will be sure to let you know.

I am also a patient of Dr. Barba's. I believe they said in the info session that consults were good only for one year. I may be wrong but that sounds familiar. It shouldn't be that hard to get everything updated though. If you want to switch to RNY, you'll need a cardiac consult also, (not necessarily needed for lap-band). Otherwise at this point in the game I don't think it matters what procedure you need, as you have not yet seen the doctor. Hope this helps.
Hi JL
Hang in there. I know that's easy to say but I've been right there where you are. My surgery is this Thursday. I have been in the process since November , 2003. When I first started out, I too wanted the lap band. After the info session, I decided I wanted RNY. I did not like the stats on weight loss and keeping it off with a lap band. Just my opinion but I liked the fact that I would lose weight faster with the RNY and keep it off. I also did not like the thought of having to get injections of saline to tighten the band.
Once I finished all my tests, I had to wait 2 months to get an appointment. Then, I waited a month more to get a surgery date. The office seems to be more backed up than ever. My process will have taken about 8 months but I hear they are back up to a year.
I would think that the pre-op results are good only for a year. If you go to the doctors refered by Dr. Barba's office, you might have a little more flexibility.
Don't lose your determination - you will get there eventually.

Wow,
The waiting time really is going to be hard. If I could keep the required weight off for such a long time I wouldn't need the surgery. I lost 10 1/2 lbs before the 2nd nutrition appt and just am not fooling myself into believing I can keep it off till I can meet with Dr Barba and then months after to have the surgery. I think I am going to start researching other possible drs in the area. The waiting game is just to much for me.
I'm not a patient of Dr. Barba but I did start this journy thinking I wanted lap band and nothing else. After all of my months of research, I realized the bypass is what is better for my body. I was scared of the permanency of the surgery, but after being fully informed, the lap band is not what will work for me.
