Hi everyone, I posted this on the main board, but I thought I'd get all of your input too. I'm a bit bothered by this... I'm 10 months out and recently noticed my hair is breaking off and in the past few weeks I've also started getting water-filled blisters in my mouth. They come and go, and never in the same place. When I was 2-4 months out my hair thinned and some fell out, but nothing like this. I can grab a few strands and bend them...and they'll break right off. I'm getting all my protein in and take my vitamins religiously, so I'm not sure what could be causing this. I did call my Doc and waiting for a call back, but I figured I'd check with the pros in the meanwhile. Any thoughts? Thanks,

That doesn't sound like a good thing! It sounds like it could easily be some sort of deficiency. If it was just the hair breaking, I'd wonder if it wasn't dehydration making your hair really dry, but I've not heard of the water blister issue. I hope your dr. calls you back soon. I'm curious as to the cause. Good luck -- and don't pull on your hair!! XO Kathy

Deb, I would definitely get this checked out. Sounds like some kind of vitamin deficiency to me. What type of B12 do you take? I have heard that the pill and sublingual are not very effective for us. My doctor has us take a B12 shot once a month. Not a big amount but he feels that either IM or the Nasal B12 are the only way to go for good absorbtion. He did say that a B12 deficiency is not something you can reverse so you may want to check it out asap. Hopefully it is something simple. Did this happen before you went on your trip? That is another thought. Maybe something related to being out of the country has something to do with it. Just brainstorming here......... Keep us updated. Linda

I take a sublingual B12 from GNC, and I take 3 Centrum chewables, plus two Viactivs daily. I noticed the brittle hair thing has been happening for the past month or so but in the last 2 weeks it's gotten progressively worse. I'm going out tonight to buy a do-rag to sleep in! Hopefully I'll hear back from Dr Aranow soon... I'll keep you posted. Bald, blistery and B*^chy, -Deb

Dear B B & B -- Just out of curiosity, I looked up B12 deficiency on WebMD. The only thing similar to your symptoms was sore mouth. I had difficulty finding answers for the other symptoms. It's a puzzle. Hope Dr. Aranow calls today. Hang in there! Kathy
