Has anyone heard
I just read the story on the front page before signing in here. What's happening to her is terrible. However, if we do research the surgery before we have it (which this woman said she did not do) we all would be aware that there is a 1-200 mortality rate for RNY, and complications are not uncommon. The article made me angry, because the media (how unusual) is sensationalizing the case of one woman who unfortunately had a terrible reaction to the surgery. I hope they are able to get her to a healthy enough weight to surgically repair her bypass. I wanted to write an e-mail saying here I am, 8 mos. out, 90 lbs. smaller, struggling to lose the rest, going to the gym 5 days a week, feeling like a new person, AND I also had a serious complication but complications can be fixed. I wouldn't trade my surgery for the world at this point.
Soooooooo, you can tell your Dad what I said (you can leave out the complication part :
: ). There are risks, but most people go on to be very successful in their weight loss and their lives are improved greatly.
I'm blabbing. All of my grumbling aside, it is a sad story & I hope that they are able to bring her to recovery.
