about the woman who had obesity surgery and now can't stop losing weight? I haven't heard anything about it, except that my father came over this morning and had heard it on the news, and now he's very upset about me having the surgery. I'd like to get some details about it and know exactly what happened.

Hi Tammy Where your dad heard from news? Our local or other state? I do not find no negatives in Ct from people who had obesity surgery who cannot stop losing weight. Maybe your dad need to come with you to talk with Dr Aranow when you have an appointment. He is the best person who can talk with your dad and he have alot of experience with people who had obesity surgery. Please tell your dad to not get upset over this new and talk with Dr Aranow about this issue. Kathy K

It's probably something you should just try to get used to. Wait until there (GOD forbid!) is a nationally publicized death from WLS...Then, the sh*$ will really hit the fan with your loved ones. It's best to try and discuss with your father what specifically your surgeon does to prevent complications, what kind of follow up care you will receive, etc. It also might be good to point out to him that since nobody knows this person, (chances are you will never find out who this was and EXACTLY their personal cir****tance) it's difficult to openly and objectively discuss what happened with them. You don't even now what KIND of surgery she had or what her start weight was or her medical conditions pre-surgery, or the qualifications of her surgeon, etc, etc. So, how can you take that as an example of something that might happen to you? I'd advise also thinking about taking your Dad or any other family member to a support group meeting, so they can meet some post ops and see how some REAL LIVE PEOPLE are doing and ask questions. Good luck to you! P.S. BY FAR- this is the absolute LEAST common problem I have ever heard of, and I've been around here for a LONG time. (2 1/2 years) You're more likely to not loose the weight or gain the weight back than anything else. (not that that should actually make anyone feel better...it's just a thought) Lisa C

Chances are that you won't be able to find out much about them. The most important things being...What KIND of surgery did they have? What were their medical conditions pre-surgery? What was their start weight? What was their follow up care? What were the qualifications of their surgeon? I could go on... but you get my point. How can you seriously consider that this is something that 'might happen' if you don't even know anything about it. Let's face it...media reporting is more about sensationalisim than about facts. It would probably be best to reassure your father by explaining to him what your surgeon does to prevent post op complications, what your follow up care will be and then ask him to attend a support group meeting with you. He can actually MEET some people who have had their surgery and ask questions. Good luck to you! Lisa C

Lisa, Howdy Pretty Lady, Was on Good Morning America this morning, My Dad called too... lol.... You know I don't know what to think about this, but am sure, if she followed closely with her Dr. It might never have gotten to this point......What Dr. is going to let a woman lose that much weight, and NOT do something about it????? AND if she can gain 40 lbs to get a reversal, then why can't she gain it, and maintain it, instead of getting the reversal???????

OK, geez, it's me again. Try not to kill me. I just got this from the main board...here's the link to the story. abcnews.go.com/sections/GMA/DrJohnson/gastric_bypass_040720-1.html Add www. in the front. Interesting and scary that this woman was so desperate she didn't care to do any research or anything as to what she was about to get into. Also sounds like she has a failure of her intestines, which is a complication I've never heard of. Anyway...there's the article, for what it's worth. It still doesnt say anything about her original surgeon or follow up care.

Tammy It is me again I read the website Lisa C. posted and she is right about that lady did not research or go to group support about this surgery. It sounds like she have internal problem inside. Please tell your dad that he should go with you to see Dr Aranow and talk about this issue. The most important to have your dad to go to group support with you and meet post op people and ask them how they are feeling after two years from this surgery. I will be at support group on July 26th and will stop to find you there after the meeting SMILE! Kathy
