Hi, I have completed all of my testing and am supposed to be getting my date today, Monday. I am hoping for Aug 8th. That's when my support system will all be in place. I don't have an angel as of yet but could use all the support I can get. I have lupus and fibromyalgia and the doctor is worried about my pain levels after surgery. Any suggestions? He seems to think it will be laproscopic, but we shall see. Any feedback would be helpful.

Hi Rebecca: It's such a relief to complete all the prior testing, isn't it? It's just a step closer to the surgery and that is wonderful. I am sorry to hear about your ailments. With Fibro, I can imagine your doctor would think about the pain levels after surgery. But he is the professional, so I am sure he will have a good pain med plan set for you. Why does he "seem to think" it will be laproscopic? Generally the doctor knows ahead of time. But there is always a chance that it could turn into open after you are on the table. I had to sign a consent form for that. Well, I wish you luck and hope you get your date today! Tara LAP RNY 6/24/04 -33 pounds

Hi Rebecca, Welcome to the CT Boards. You have come to the right place for support . This is one great group!! As far as managing pain levels goes it would probably be best if you do have the Lap procedure done as there tends to be alot less pain than the open. Personally I had no pain and never took anything stronger than liquid tylenol after I got home and really didn't use much in the hospital. There is a pain med called Toradol (sp?) that is used in the hospital that alot of people prefer. You might ask your doctor about that. Who is your surgeon and where are you having your surgery?? Tell us more.... Good luck!! Linda

Hi Rebecca, I looked at your profile and I see your Dr. is Dr. Zuccala. The same one I had. I can tell you he plans to do all of his surgeries lap, and only does open if he finds something like a hernia. I don't know about lupus and fibromyalgia, but he would probably start with lap and if necessary then convert to open. He is a great surgeon, you are in good hands. Let us know when you get a date. Good luck! Anne

Hi Rebecca WELCOME! We are a great group here. You'll get lots and lots of info here too! I have some autoimmune stuff going on too, and my rheumatologist tells me that the surgery should relieve some of my pain/symptoms. Maybe your surgeon and rheumatologist could consult and make a plan for you. Good luck, and keep us posted! JA
