Sleep Apnea

Hi Everyone, I had my 2nd nutrition appointment yesterday and only lost 1 lb I was so disppointed!! ( I was suppose to lose at least 2 lbs, Dr. Barba is my surgeon) I have been scheduled for another appointment in 3 weeks though. I was wondering if someone could tell me what the CPAP clinic is? I had my sleep study about a month ago and the doctors office called and said I have sleep apnea and needed to make an appointment for cpap clinic. I know it has something to do with the machine? It just doesn't make sense that its a "clinic" to me. I thought this would be done individually with each person? I guess I should have just asked lol... My appointment in on Friday morning.

Just a place where they size and test the machine, usually, similar to the sleep clinic.

Hi Amy I am also a patient of Dr. Barba's and I am assuming your pulminologist is Dr. Preskensis (sp?). I also had a sleep study and was found to have sleep apena and a low oxygen level when sleeping. I was scheduled for CPAP clinic, just like you, at Dr. Preskensis's office. All it was was representatives from Lincare (a home health company) were there to fit you for a face mask and arrange to deliver a CPAP machine to you. The rep explains how the machine works when you take delivery of it. I had no clue what it was either until I went so you're not alone! I get a kick out of knowing someone else is in the same boat as me. This web site is great for this sort of thing! Leslie

If they discovery you have sleep apnea and are required to use the machine (pre-op), will you have to use that machine for the rest of your life or does surgery correct sleep apnea? phyllis
