5 days after and finally feeling better
Hi everyone, I had lap rny on Wed, and everything went well. I came home on Friday (needed that pillow) and for 2 days I was an emotional mess. I cried that all that planning and waiting was finally over, and phase 3 was about to begin. I was so thankful to be home with my family, so I cried about that, so thankful for phone calls and cards from friends that I cried about that! Did this ever happen to anyone? I was due to get my period, but I started the next pack to skip it, so thay may just explain it all, but gosh, I am finally feeling in control of my emotions again.
I have a million questions, but for now, when did you start driving again? How about your activity level? I seem to go in spurts. I'll get up and putter around for a while, than go and sit for a while, and I still take a nice nap in the afternoon.
And how do you get all tha****er in? Cold liquids are uncomfortable, so I've been sipping herbal tea and chicken broth, but I in no way get 32 ounces in, more like 24? Do I count the 2oz 3xday of ensure? Whenever I sleep I am still sweating out all the IV fluids. Yech. Any advice is welcome.
Diane.
Rest asuured, you are not alone and very normal.
I cried just like you off and on for the first month!
I cried at the drop of a hat... with gratitude... with uncertainty, the whole ball of wax!
Your recovery will take a while, so be patient with yourself.
Each day gets easier and you will feel stronger as well.
Rest if you can and stay hydrated.
Ask for foot rubs!
Any liquid counts as your liquids, but consult your doctor's nutritionist or see one to get specific info.
Good luck!
T.
Hi Diane,
I am your "neighbor" in Beacon Falls!!!!
I had my Band surgery on Christmas Eve which makes today my 3 week anniversary.
Being an "emotional mess" is very normal. Between the surgery and starting a whole new life, we have something to be emotional about. I had tears over everything-sad, happy, good, bad...everything brought tears.
I did not have a good beginning after surgery. I went home Christmas Day and was back in the ER 11:00 P.M. Christmas night. I had breathing problems from collapsed lungs. I was readmitted given antibiotics and oxygen. I did a lot of walking in the hospital and was discharged for good on December 27th-three days after surgery. Except for wicked gas pains (still bothers me) especially in my left shoulder, the actual incisions did not bother me too much. I took a liquid Tylenol when it got bad and a lot of Gas-Ex.
My doctor cleared me for all activities (including driving) at 9 days after surgery at my first pre-op appointment, but I am sure many drive even before that. My hospital discharge only said no heavy lifting with no other restrictions.
I also had a problem with liquids and had to make an effort to get it all in. I drank Fruit 2-0, or other flavored zero calorie water, at room temperature. I also drank a Protein liquid I got at my doctor's office. I think I was bordering on dehydration, so I forced the liquids. I felt better when I got all the liquids in, but it took about 3 or 4 days post-surgery to do it.
Everything gets much better very soon. You will feel stronger each day. I went back to work after 2 weeks, but the first two days were awful. I was so tired and weak. I could hardly stand at the end of the day. By the third day, I was back to normal.
Take one day at a time, drink your fluids, do some walking, and most of all rest.
I wish you the very best of luck,
Nancy
