A New Experience

Add this to the list of new experiences that we've had. The other night a friend of mine and I stopped at a diner for a bite to eat. I'm 8 months out, she's just starting the process. We each ordered a cup of soup and then ordered a grilled ham and cheese sandwich to share. The waiter actually asked us if that was going to be enough food for us. I've experienced waiters taking my order in shorthand to try to keep up with me, but never this. Anyone else ever experience this? Was this a compliment or what?? Looking forward to hearing some feedback, All the best, Bob 8 months post op, -122lbs

Hi Robert I am only a week and a half out but had my first dining-out experience tonight. It was pretty frustrating that I could not eat one single thing on the menu, but I did order soup and it tasted awful. When the server came back to clear the plates and saw I only ate a bite, she asked if everything was okay, then commented on the fact that I must not be hungry. I wasn't offended, I was more thinking "I spent 5 bucks to have a couple spoonfuls of this slop and you are questioning me?". Way to go on your success, by the way! Tara

I think that is great, I would say a compliment. I am only a week and a half out and went to a dinner party last night. I knew going in there wouldn't be anything there for me to eat, because of course I am not eating yet. But, I kept myself busy serving, clearing and drinking a lot of water. When I see your 8 months post op, -122lbs, I know the sacrifices will be worth it. I keep chanting there are worse things in life than not being able to eat at a dinner party. Anyway, good luck and continued success.

Hi Robert, First of all congrats on your great weight loss . You must feel awesome. Don't you love when those little things like your restaurant experience happen? It just makes you realize how great life is. It is a compliment because food service people are used to people ordering alot of food, even the skinny ones. When someone doesn't they feel like they have done something wrong . Just enjoy that fact that they don't need shorthand to wait on you anymore!! I have found that eating out at restaurants is not bad at all. I just chose wisely and don't eat all the extra's they may put on my plate. I really don't stress about the money part because it is not the restaurant's problem whether or not I chose to eat all they serve. If I know they serve huge amounts I usually just get an appetizer and salad so the portion is more to my liking. I have often asked for them not to bring the potato or rice etc. I don't need to go through alot of explanation. I just eat what I want and take the rest home....... I have to say that I did not go out to eat the first couple of weeks other than Thanksgiving Dinner at my sisters. I just picked.......had some mashed potatoes, jello etc. My first meal in a restaurant was scrambled eggs with cheese, but now I have much wider choices obviously. Have a great weekend Linda
