Cigna Insurance

Hello All, I have Cigna for insurance and am considering the Lap-Band. The surgeons office says they no longer cover the band, however Cigna assures me that they will cover it. Has anyone out there dealt with Cigna? How difficult is it to get approval and what steps need to be taken? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Carmen

Hi I worked there over a year ago, so i dont know if the Lap-Band is covered. But I do know if your predetermination gets denied appeal it as many times as you can. They are good for denying the first time. Also stay on top of things as mail tends to get lost. It all depends on the Cigna office you are dealing with. They usually are good about approving things, especially when appealed. I was shocked about some of the things that eventually got covered, they were really cosmetic but with the right wording it got approved on appeal.

Thans for the info. I will keep it in mind and keep appealing if I need to!

I have CIGNA. I did not have Lap Band but Open RNY. They were very nice and easy to deal with. My surgeon wrote a letter of medical necessity, I faxed it to CIGNA, and was approved one day later. I thought I was going to have to jump through hoops, all kinds of testing, diet history. I was suprised they approved it in one day, I was ready to battle!

Thanks, I hope I have such an easy time. I'm just waiting as patiently as possible to meet with the surgeon and start the process.
