gyno issues

Hi Everyone. I was just wondering if anyone's cycles were messed up because of surgery. I had 1-1/2 years of infertility treatments trying to get pregnant before I had WLS. We stopped trying. I am very regular with my cycle, and right on schedule I got my period on 5/23, the day before my surgery. I have not had one since. Now since I couldn't get pregnant, my husband and I use no birth control, and we had unprotected sex one time after my surgery, before I went and got the depo shot. I had a urine pregnancy test before the shot was given and it was negative, then I took a home pregnancy test over the weekend. Still negative, but no cycle. I have the signs of PMS, that's for sure. I have heard where women get their period more frequently and heavily after surgery, but not where it doesn't come at all. Should I worry? I am starting to, but trying not to. How long can it be til it comes? Thanks, Anne

Hi anne I am not sure if this is the case with you but a friend of mine had the depo shot and she said a side effect of the shot is NO CYCLES. she has been 2 yrs now without one and her dr said its normal for some people to stop while taking the shots. Cheryl K

I've also heard that depo shots can result in loss of periods (darn), but I will say that my period was messed up for a couple of months after I had the surgery. It settled down pretty quickly & is now back to it's near on the dot schedule. Here's hopin' XO Kathy F.

Hi Anne! I'm not familiar with the depo shot and I too got my period the day before surgery. What a nightmare that was, but it took about 3 months before I started up again. It's been like clockwork ever since. Hope this helps. Lucy

I have not had surgery yet, so I don't know what effect that may have. I have used depo for several years in the past and my period stopped almost immediately after my first shot and I only had occasional spotting for the first few months, then nothing for the remainder of time I was on it. Hi I also had the Depo shot and it stopped all my periods, didnt even have any spotting. After I stopped getting the Depo, it took about a year to be regular again. Meli

Anne: This isn't at all as messed up as what you are going through, but wanted to put in my $.02 regarding my cycle. I got my period the day after surgery (Friday) and still have it. ENOUGH ALREADY! Tara
