ok here goes, i was scheduled for my surgery on june 16th right? well, my great little insurance comp. calls the office and tells Linda that they want more info. on me as my bmi was not high enough to have my surgery approved without some comorbitities...i guess the chronic HP and DJD wasn't good enough for them...anyway, on the 14th i get the news that my primary couldn't find any more reason why i should have the surgery so here i am at home in a depression that i have been in since then. I guess when i gain 15-20 more pounds i can go back as i was told but on the other hand my boyfriend says uh-uh, i'm not doing that...gee how supportive. So i guess i'll live in this 200+ body for now and dine on nachos and milk shakes ....thanx for all the support that has been sent my way and good luck to everone in their new beginnings love, paulette

Oh paulette- I'm so sorry for you. But, why give up so easily? Make an appointment to SEE your PCP and TELL him what you need him to do. Write the letter for him if you have to. You list co-morbs that should help with the approval...so get your PCP to write about those and how they effect your daily life. That should help the insurance company to look 'outside the box' regarding your BMI. Please don't just give up, you have to fight for yourself, because no one else will. If this is what's right for you and you know it in your heart, then you have to do everything in your power to make it work for you. Good luck to you.

Can you find another PCP that supports this surgery more than the doctor you have? I'd switch doctors.....

Hi Paulette, You've received great advice so far. You need to keep up the fight. Do whatever you have to for approval - switch doctors, write letters, etc. If you have comorbidities, you should be able to get approval. You should appeal the insurance decision for sure. We're all here to help you through this. God Bless, Kathy Bilodeau

Paulette, DO NOT GIVE UP !!!! there is hope..and gaining more weight is probably not the answer. Give Linda a call at Dr. Bell's office..see what she suggests. she works with these insurance companies every day and im sure could probably give you some pointers...you arent doing this surgery for your boyfriend, you are doing it for you. and you come first...explain to your pcp (or find a new one) that you have tried these diets and can't seem to lose weight and you need the help of the surgery..after all it is a tool...not an answer..and ask him/her what you can do to help the approval along...you have a lot of support here so vent, vent, vent but do not give up hope...... there is always a light at the end of the tunnel..sometimes we have to work harder to get there... gaining more weight will only make you feel worse about yourself and could make ur comorbidities worse and you don't want that...
