I'm Home .. so tired
Hi All:
Thank you for the wonderful messages. I've been reading the threads.
Well, I am home and definitely in A LOT of pain!!! I am begging for my next dose of tylenol w/codeine. Ed just ran to the pharmacy to get that.
The drain coming out, was such a gross feeling. I literally felt the inches of rubber being pulled through my abdomen. My left side, close to one of the incisions is pretty bruised and I am not sure why.
Joanie and anyone else who has their surgery coming up, don't drive home in an SUV. That was very painful to hit the bumps. I felt my insides jiggling around.
I am on the recliner and I don't plan on moving from here for a very long time!
Thanks again for all the nice words.
Love you,
Tara
I bet its good to be home tho! As each day goes on the pain should get less and less. You had a lap..I am having an open..I cannot imagine the pain I am going to have...but its going to be worth it!!! Take care of yourself...my prayers are with you for a speedy recovery!
Five days and counting..
Joanie
Hi Chryssie honey!
Uh yes, the drain removal was just plain gross. It didn't hurt, but it seriously took my breath away.
What kinda details do you want? I have my drugs now and am on the laptop!
Day 2 was the worst, for the record. The first day, well, I didn't get to my room until 9:30pm, I was still using a cathetor so I didn't need to move. BUT day 2, they figure you can be on your own. The PT comes to your room and tells you to take a walk. I know this is important, but I wanted to punch them in the face. I hope they didn't mind my being sooooooo nasty. "Can we try stairs tomorrow?" "uhh no, screw you!". UGH!
Early day 3, Saturday, they took my morphine pump away. THE NERVE. So then I had to ring the nurses everytime I needed some pain meds. If they got to me within 30 minutes, I was lucky.
When getting up from the bed to go potty (every 2 hours on the dot), it used a lot of my upperbody (arm, neck back) muscles, so those really hurt now. Then you stand up and feel all your inside kinda drop down a bit. Okay, not cool. Really, that sucked. Walking to the bathroom just sucked!
The nurses and other people were very helpful. One of the aides would put cream on my back. Ahhh that was nice.
What other details do ya need? I'd be more than happy to give ya more!

Tara,
WELCOME HOME! I know it is probably really bad, but think of the reward in a few weeks/months!!!
I had an open hysterectomy 1 1/2 yrs ago, so I know the feeling of being told to stand up! UGH !! They told me I had to stand up that night! I told them there were crazy.
Anway, thanks for the SUV tip. I have one and my friend from California is coming to stay w/me and will be picking me up from the hospital, so I'll have to have her have another friend drive!
Rest and keep us posted...and take those meds!!
XO

Hi Tara,
Welcome home!! Am soooo glad to see you home and back on the boards so quickly. I am sorry that you are having pain but it really does get better. Just keep your sense of humor girl friend and all will be well. I think I either have very selective memory or Dr. Bell didn't do surgery on me like he said...... I had no pain in the hospital or at home, I only used the morphine pump a couple of times in the hospital and never used any of the pain meds at home. I really don't remember having my drain taken out so I guess it wasn't an issue....... There really are days I am not sure I had the surgery!! I am sure you will be up and bopping around very very soon.
Linda

Welcome home Tara !!!!!!
Glad you are home and you are on the "other" side. Your pain will subside. Each day will get better!!! i too like JA had a hysterectomy a few years ago, and it was brutal at first..but if ya keep thinking of the big picture..what comes after...you'll forget about that pain....kinda like when ya have kids........anyway..glad you are okay and on the puter already..we all looked forward to hearing from you..now you have some writing to do in your journal page so we preops can go read it and know what to expect...
have a great day and feel better..but take advantage of the being waited on while you can

Tara,
I went to a 2 hr meeting with the nurses from the bariatric floor and they told me they will have me up and walking the first night...the morphine pump will be disconnected on the day after surgery...and that from the second day until the day I go home they expect me to sit up in a chair from 8am to 8pm...and walk a mile a day! Now I am getting scared knowing you were in this much pain from the lap...and I am having open...Yikes! Breathe Joanie! LOL I just have to think of what this is all for..and the end result..I can do this!
Joanie--my surgery is this Friday!!
