Well, I just had to do it!!
I am still on pureed foods, for 3 more weeks. I swore I would never, ever absolutely never, deviate from my doctor's food plan. BUT...tonight I was cooking BBQ ribs on the grill, and I just had to have a bite. I tried to chew and chew, and thought I did ok, so then I had another tiny bite...and another.
In about a minute I knew I had a problem. I felt it getting stuck on the way down, it hurt. The lower it went the more uncomfortable it got. I ended up going in the bathroom and purposely bringing it back up
Thank God it all came up. I was panicking that I would be one of the examples they use at the support group about patients who don't listen and have to come in to have the food removed.
I have always had to learn the hard way. I guess I am still the same.
I don't think I will try that again. But, I will not say never...

Hi Anne,
Glad that you're OK. I'll bet that was pretty scary. Remember, it is just your mind telling you right now that you want this. Don't get down on yourself, you have changed! For starters, you've lost #30 lbs-and thats huge! You're a pastry chef, right? Well, think of it this way-you've LOST 6 bags of flour (5 lbs per bag). So, next time you're lifting that up, tell yourself that that weight is gone from you-forever. And tell yourself with ribs or whatever else you might want that you will be able to have it soon enough! Take time and let your body heal. I can't begin to know, I haven't had the surgery yet, but you've been doing great, and keep up the good work!

Hi Anne,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. You're right, I have changed already. And it is a learning experience. By the way, I am not a pastry chef, I am an office manager in a sales office, but I enjoyed your analogy anyway. I am glad I am not a pastry chef. If I had to be around that all the time, just think of all the learning experiences I would have.
Thanks,
Anne
