A Silly Question

Hi Everyone, I have a question that no matter how much I look for the answer online, I cannot seem to find. For all the post-ops, why does it say we can't "gulp" anymore? Will it make me vomit? Will I drink to much? Does something change with my throat? And, does this "no gulping" thing last forever? Anne

Hi Anne, I'm only a month post op, but I can tell ya.. you can't gulp. It hurts (me anyway) going down. There's not enough room in the pouch to support a gulp. I'm not sure why this causes the spasms in your throat, but it does. I haven't gulped to where it would make me vomit, but I have swallowed too much and it does hurt. I'm sure others will be able to answer more. I'm pretty sure that you'll be able to drink faster once your stomach expands. Michelle

Hi Anne, The "no gulping" thing doesn't last forever. I don't remember exactly how long it was before I could take bigger sips but you'll know. I'm not sure either why we can't gulp, but I know it does take a while for your pouch to heal and its pretty delicate for a while. Also I found that I did better when I didn't drink things real cold. Hope this was a little help, Mary Lou
